President: Michael Shayler 07969 446 739 Chairman: Colin Olliffe 07909 978 863 CHARLBURY CRICKET CLUB Consideration for Charlbury to join the Cherwell League. As you may be aware, the Club are considering joining the Cherwell League from next season. Our proposed timetable to make a decision is as follows: 1. 2. 3. Expression of interest tabled to Cherwell (Complete) Survey to all members on-line to gauge overall interest, enthusiasm, and members concerns. Complete the survey no later than 8th July please. A club meeting where the issue will be put to a vote when final details of membership criteria are understood. Date to be confirmed. Positive reasons for this consideration broadly follow the points below: It is felt that OCA division 1 standard is in decline. This can be largely attributed to the stronger clubs leaving the OCA and joining Cherwell such as East Oxford, Westbury and Minster Lovell. Over the longer term, Charlbury CC may be able to attract stronger local players and retain the most talented youth if we are in the Cherwell. Over the longer term, it is possible that the stronger clubs (those able to put 3 or 4 sides out on a Saturday) will end up in the Cherwell. Some information about the Cherwell league application: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. OCA division one is broadly similar to Cherwell League 4. Cherwell games start at 13.00 and are 100 overs long. (The side batting first being able to bat up to 53 overs). Sides can use just 3 bowlers per innings if they wish. The predominant cricket format is win/lose/draw – with points being allocated for winning draws etc. If Charlbury CC were to join it is likely the only the 1st and 2nd xi would join initially, with the 3rd xi remaining in the OCA. Some Reasons to consider remaining in the OCA: 5. The travel distances can be further than at present. (Please look at the clubs in Cherwell for further information on this.) The game time is longer with an earlier start. We may find that Cherwell 4 is relatively weak for the 1xi. Charlbury CC are one of the leading clubs in the OCA, this won’t be the case in the Cherwell. Some players prefer win/loss cricket.
