Metairie Academy for Advanced Studies Monthly Mustang Written and Published by Student Reporters Ms. Leslie Dubroc, Advisor Isaac Joseph, Superintendent Ms. Melinda Bourgeois, Board Member Mr. Jim Garvey, B.E.S.E Member Ms. Lisa Babin, Principal Our mission is to help our students grow academically, socially, & physically to become well-rounded responsible citizens. School Wide Behavior Expectations: Be Positive, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be a Problem Solver Our goal is to move all students up one proficiency level in ELA and Math on state testing. Students who are already at the Advanced level will maintain that level of performance. During the 2015-2016 school year teachers will use Fountas and Pinnell data to design differentiated instruction. We will maintain a campus that provides a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment for students. The Metairie Academy Co-Op is excited to announce its annual Gala benefiting Metairie Academy for Advanced Studies! The 2016 Starry Night Gala will be at Southport Hall. Now in its 10th year, the Gala raises funds for educational tools, equipment, staff development and facility improvements that our students might not otherwise have. Proceeds from previous Galas have purchased computers & iPads, audiovisual systems for classrooms and licenses for online learning tools, among other things. A key component of the Gala is obtaining donations from businesses that will then be auctioned the night of the Gala. We would love parent support in obtaining as many donations as possible. For a donation form and ideas of how to ask for donations, please visit the gala website at http://www.maascoop.org/starry-nightgala/ To stay up to date please like The Men's Club on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Mustang-Mens-Club120227658103697/?fref=ts or visit http://www.maascoop.org/starry-night-gala For questions please contact the Starry Night Gala committee at [email protected]. The fundraiser for the Louisiana branch of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Pasta for Pennies is now March 1 March 28 In addition to the "change" boxes we are excited to be on line this year. Go to www.StudentSeries.org and find our school, then find your child's homeroom class for on-line giving. Homeroom classes will be competing for an Olive Garden lunch party. Our school has been challenged to get a donation from each of the 50 states. We encourage you all to contact relatives and friend in other states to give on-line through your child's homeroom webpage. Thank you for your giving which helps to save lives! Chess Team Champions! The Metairie Academy Chess Team lead by Coach Ken became chess champions! The team won 1st place in the recent Louisiana scholastic K-6 chess team tournament and 2nd place in the K-4 chess team tournament. Congratulations on job well done! Boxtops, Labels and more.... Please turn in the labels & products with your child. Each Label & Product offers special bonus offers and has many products that you can collect from. Please click on the images below to find out more about each fundraiser. Pull-Tabs for Charity Pull for the House One of the easiest ways to help the House is by collecting pull tabs! This important program helps fund various household expenses at Ronald McDonald House. Families pay $10 per night for their stay, but it actually costs the house $68 per night to house each family. The pull tab program helps supplement those costs, including buying food for the house pantry and providing gas for the house van. Ronald McDonald Houses collect pop tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because it's more hygienic to store tabs than cans, and collection and storage is easier. (This program helps others) Please do not reply to this email address as it is not regularly checked.
