Guidelines
1. Physical must be complete, permission form signed (on physical), and concussion form completed before you
can participate in practice or competitions.
2. First practice is August 24th afterschool at 3:10 p.m. Afternoon practices are from 3:10 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Morning
practices are from 6:10 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Players are expected to be on the court and ready to practice prior to the stated
starting times.
3. You must attend and work out in at least five (5) practices before being allowed to participate in games.
4. Absences should be cleared with Coach Rouw or Coach Eli. Unexcused absences will not be tolerated. You do not
come to practice, you will not play. Remember, you must be in school for a ½ day in order to count for a school day.
This means you can arrive to school no later than 11:30 and still count as a day in school. Miss more than ½ day and you
can not play in the match that night. Missing practice due to detentions is considered to be unexcused absences.
Returning from absence due to illness requires a note from parents. If you miss practice immediately before a game for
illness or an unexcused absence, you will not be allowed to play in the next game. If you have orthodontist
appointments already scheduled, do not reschedule them. I know how hard it is to schedule these and we can make
allowances for this situation. If in doubt, please email or call me a few days a head of time.
5. All players should have T-shirt, shorts, kneepads, and court shoes. A game uniform will be provided.
6. Game uniforms are to be worn during game competitions. You may wear your uniform to school on game days. Be
careful not to damage or stain your uniform. Your uniform should not be worn on days other than game days.
7. A team picture will be taken. In the past, this optional purchase has been $10.00. Please do not send money now.
Picture forms will be provided.
8. Players are expected to ride the bus to and from away games. If you are going to ride home with a parent, you, the
player, will need to have permission form completed (provided prior to each away game.) The coaches will provide the
permission form. The form also can be found at http://harding.cr.k12.ia.us/sports/volleyball/volleyball.htm.
9. Remember that your schoolwork comes first. Keep your grades up and cooperate with your teachers to the best
of your ability. You will not be allowed to participate in games with a failing grade. If student is receiving a D or F
they are not expected to practice until 3:30 pm and will be excused at 7:25 am to get additional assistance to raise
those grades.
10. No jewelry is allowed on a player’s person during a match. No earrings, necklaces, rings, or hard plastic or
metal hair pieces. (State Rules)
11. Team assignments are based on ability, effort, and attitude. The proper combination of these will earn you a
higher team placement. My goals for our team are to learn volleyball, work together as a team and HAVE FUN!
If you have questions about your situation, see Coach Rouw or Coach Eli!
