Dear parents, Summer 2016 Welcome to the Miller-Ball

Dear parents,
Summer 2016
Welcome to the Miller-Ball-Rausch Team, Seneca House & Farnsworth Middle School! We look
forward to a productive, fun-filled, enlightening year, and we are glad to have you on our team. We
hope the information that follows helps you and your child prepare for the start of the school year.
“Bragging” Letter
We would like you to write a letter bragging about your child. Tell us all about your sixth
grader...their hobbies, interests, talents, etc. Include your child’s strengths and weaknesses as a
learner, too. These letters really help us get off to a good start with our new students because we
read them before the first day of school. Please e-mail this letter before Sept. 1st if possible (e-mail
addresses below). Thank you!
Summer Reading
Our expectation is that each student will read at least one book and be ready to talk about it with
classmates during the first few days of school. We hope they read many more than just one! To help
us get to know our readers, we want each student to keep a record of all of the books they read this
summer and turn it in on the first day of school. Go to our team website by using the “Team &
Teacher Pages” link on the FMS website, then find the link for the FMS 2016 Summer Book Record,
and print out a copy for your child to use. We have also included a paper copy here. Parents, please
sign the form and send it in on the first day of school.
Assignment Notebook
($4.00 cash or check made out to FMS): All students at FMS use the assignment notebook (or “APad”) to develop study skills, organizational skills, and as a communication device between parents
and teachers. All students purchase this notebook, and they will receive it on the first day of school.
We look forward to meeting you and working together with you toward the success of your child this
school year. We value and encourage open communication between parents and teachers: look for
our weekly Friday Letters for up-to-the minute classroom news, monitor your child’s grades on the
district’s SchoolTool website, and use our team website (with homework assignments listed) to help
your child manage their academic responsibilities. The first day of school will be Wednesday, Sept. 7 th
and Sixth Grade Open House is scheduled for the evening of Wed., Sept. 14 th. We look forward to
meeting you soon. Until then, have a great rest of the summer!
Sincerely,
Kristen Miller, Matt Ball & Dan Rausch

** Good organizational skills are a major factor in student success at the middle school level. To help
students be well prepared, we have included a list of school supplies necessary for a successful year (on back).
We will spend some time during the first few days of school labeling and organizing supplies.
