Common Rules of Dizzy Dean Baseball

Wildcat Classic
12U Dizzy Dean District Warm-Up
Tournament Rules
Unless otherwise noted, the "Common Rules of Dizzy Dean Baseball" will govern play. Please note the following exceptions and points
of clarification:
BATTING ORDER: a team may choose one of the following:
- Continuous batting order with free defensive substitutions -OR - Follow pure Dizzy Dean rules for re-entry substitution
Please inform the umpires and other team which option you are choosing during the pre-game meeting at home plate. A team must
start with a minimum of 9 players but can finish with less, taking outs in vacated batting positions.
COURTESY RUNNERS: Courtesy runners are allowed for the pitcher and catcher. The courtesy runner must be a substitute if
batting/playing nine. If batting continuous order, the courtesy runner must be the last batted out.
UNIFORMS: Uniform requirements are relaxed for this tournament as follows:
- Full baseball uniform is not required for coaches. Shorts are fine.
- Matching uniforms for players are preferred, but not required, as we understand some teams may not have uniforms at this early
juncture. However, each player must, at a minimum, wear a unique number clearly visible on the back of his/her jersey.
HOME TEAM DETERMINATION: During pool play, home team is determined by coin toss. For elimination games, the highest seeded
team will be given choice of home/visitor. For each game, the home team will furnish the official scorekeeper and the visiting team will
furnish the scoreboard operator.
GAME LENGTH: Games are complete after 6 innings of play, or when time limit is reached. No new inning will begin after 1 hour and
30 minutes. In pool play, no game will be played out after time limit or inning limit. When time limit is up, home team is batting & home
team is ahead, the game is over regardless of score. We will NOT complete the inning, and the final score will be the score at the end
of the time limit. In elimination play, games have to be played out until there is a winner. Umpires will keep official time. No time limit in
championship game.
TIE BREAKERS: During pool play, games tied at the end of regulation (6 innings or time limit) will end in a tie. During bracket play, if
the game is still tied at the end of regulation play (6 innings or time limit), the International Tie-Breaker rule will apply: For each team, the
last batted out in the previous inning will be placed on 2nd base to start the next inning. Play will continue using this format until a
winner is determined.
MERCY RULE: 15 runs after 3 innings, 10 runs after 4 innings, 8 runs after 5 innings (or if the home team is ahead by the specified
margin after 2 ½, 3 ½ or 4 ½ innings, respectively). Mercy rule remains in effect in all games, including championship game.
OFFICIAL GAME: If a game is called because of rain or other acts of God and cannot be resumed, it is an official game if four innings
have been completed in a 6-inning game, or if the home team is ahead after 3 ½ innings. The tournament format may be changed to
shorter time limits or fewer innings to complete the tournament if we are impacted by the weather.
SEEDING: Tiebreakers for determining seeding will be as follows:
1. Head-to-Head
2. Runs Allowed
3. Run Differential (max +/- 7 runs per game)
4 Runs Scored
5. Coin Toss
Note: we reserve the right to apply pool protection for lower seeded teams.
BASEBALLS: Each team is to provide (2) two new baseballs per game.
