Learn-to-Curl Classes
We host our next 2013 Learn-to-Curl classes on:
Monday, September 30th ; Wednesday, October 2nd; & Monday, October 7th
What’s a “Learn-to-Curl” session?
It’s the fastest and best way to get the gist of curling. You’ll receive a half hour of off-ice instruction starts you off so you’ll learn
what the game is all about. Then 50 minutes of on-ice practice to give it a try and get your balance. For the next half hour, you’ll get to
play a 2-end game!!! By the end of the session, you’ll be a curler! It’s that easy!!!
Who can “Learn-to-Curl”? Can my children try it?
Curling is a “lifetime” sport for people of all ages and abilities. We love for youth to try curling!! Because it takes a certain amount of
strength to slide the 42 pound granite stones down the ice, children about 9 years and up are generally able to participate. We can
accommodate wheelchair curlers and those who may not be flexible; we teach these people to use the “stick” for delivery. Don’t know
what that is? Don’t worry; just come to the sessions so we can get you curling. All participants must sign waivers. Parents or legal
guardians must sign waivers for children under 18 years of age.
How much does it cost?
A class is $10/person or $25/family.
Where is the La Crosse Curling Club and how do I get there?
La Crosse’s ONLY curling club is located at the Green Island Ice Arena, 2312 S. 7th Street on the south side of La Crosse behind the
Gundersen Hospital complex. See the “Directions” tab on our main page for maps & directions
Do I need any equipment?
No! We have all the equipment you need to learn to curl. Just be sure to wear warm, comfortable, loose-fitting clothing – track pants
or sweatpants work best and wear athletic, rubber soled shoes such as tennis shoes. Hat & Gloves??? It’s up to you; we keep the air
temperature at 50 degrees.
Is curling hard to do?
Curling is easy to learn and fun to play right from the first stone you throw. Most everyone we meet has seen curling televised from
the Winter Olympics – looks easy, right? Curling is a sport of strategy and finesse; and, as with any sport, the more you do it the
better at it you become.
What if I like it?
You can join the La Crosse Curling Club as an individual, couple, team or even a group. We can help by placing you on a team with
more experienced players, or we can help you organize your team. Many people living in the La Crosse area already curl in a regular
league. Some are even traveling to other clubs and competing in curling tournaments called bonspiels. Check out the membership
page for information on fees.
Come and try curling – fun is just a stone’s throw away!
We hope to see you soon!
