ABOUT WATER POLO VICTORIA
Water Polo Victoria (WPVI) is the governing body for water polo competition in Victoria,
with 26 affiliated clubs and approximately 1,200 affiliated members. It is affiliated with
the national body, Water Polo Australia.
WPVI and its affiliated clubs offer competitions throughout the year, from under 12
years through to adults of all ages. In addition Water Polo Victoria runs an Athlete
Development Program for talented athletes that provides a pathway to the National
Water Polo League and the Victorian Institute of Sport.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Bumpa Ball Co-ordinator, under an initiative funded by VicHealth Innovation
Challenge program, is to develop and implement a program, which will encourage
participation in a new and innovative sport, which will be fun and encourage healthy
activity.
Bumpa Ball is an introduction to aquatic team environment and as an introduction to
basic principles of the sport of water polo. Players will use inter tubes for floatation
whilst passing the ball to score goals. The rules are modelled on water polo.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES
Tasks







Establish and manage day-to-day administration of Bumpa Ball programs,
including team/participant registrations, event/game day operations and
communicating with teams/members
Coordinate the program day operations such as venue set up, referee
supervision, conflict resolution and recording of results
Generate and maintain program draws, rosters and results on a weekly basis
Develop and implement initiatives to improve programs
Maintain the communication links between WPV, participants, teams and
officials.
Assist with the marketing and promotion of the programs
Attend development sessions and program updates as required by VicHealth
Outcomes





Production of appropriate Case Study Summary and interim reports required
under the funding agreement
Development of a participant feedback survey and collection and collation of
results
Coordination of University competitions (including collection and collation of
feedback)
Establishment and delivery of at least one 8 week (incorporating 6-10 teams)
social competition at an appropriate facility, including promotional activities
and the collection and collation of feedback
Delivery of ad hoc “Come & Try” and one-off events (corporates, select
communities, schools in conjunction with WPV staff)

This role may include weekend, morning and evening work.
It is a mandatory requirement to attend all organised training and team
meetings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Competencies Required
 Demonstrated experience in the management and organisation of sporting
fixtures and/or event management
 High level of utilising technology and computer skills
 Demonstrated high level of organisational and administrative skills
 Excellent customer service skills, including a high level or oral and written
communication skills
 Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
 Passionate about ensuring the growth and success of the program
 Reporting (written) of activities and updates on program.
Experience


Relevant experience in a state or national sporting organisation
Work in a Sporting Organisation
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
 Applicant must currently hold a valid Working with Children Check in
Victoria
 An ability to transport equipment to and from facilities.

As an independent contractor you will be responsible for your own
administrative requirements such as insurance, workcover, superannuation,
etc
Desirable
 Understanding of water polo
 Tertiary Qualifications in Sport
 Level 2 First Aid
