Class 2 – Yr 1 Obj.
Val Sabin Units 3 Using hoops & quoits & 4 Using ropes, bats & balls +
physical literacy work. Sports Day preparation.
Prime Area – Physical Development Goals
“Master basic movements including running, jumping,
throwing & catching, as well as developing balance,
agility & coordination, & begin to apply these in a
range of activities. Participate in team games,
developing simple tactics for attacking & defending.”

30-50mths -Moves freely & with pleasure and confidence in a range of ways;
slithering, shuffling, rolling, crawling, running, sliding. Can catch a large ball.
Runs skilfully & negotiates space successfully, adjusting speed & direction to
avoid obstacles. Can stand momentarily on one foot when shown. Observes the
effects of activity on their bodies. Dresses with help.
Understands that equipment have to be used safely.
40-60+mths - Experiments with different ways of moving. Negotiates space
successfully when playing racing & chasing games with other children, adjusting
speed or changing direction o avoid obstacles. Shows increasing control over an
object in pushing, patting, throwing, catching or kicking it. Shows some
understanding of the need for safety when tackling new challenges & considers
& manages some risks. Practices some appropriate safety measures without
direct supervision.

Show awareness of opponents and team-mates when playing
games; perform basic skills of rolling, striking and kicking with more
confidence; apply these skills in a variety of simple games; make
choices about appropriate targets, space and equipment; use a
variety of simple tactics; describe how their bodies work and feel
when playing games; work well with a partner and in a small group
to improve their skills.

Use a range of skills, e.g. throwing, striking, intercepting
and stopping a ball, with some control and accuracy. Choose
and vary skills and tactics to suit the situation in a game
and carry out tactics successfully. Set up small games,
know the rules and use them fairly to keep the games
going. Explain what you need to do to get ready to play
games. Carry out warm ups with care and an awareness of
what is happening to your body. Describe what you and
others do that is successful and suggest what needs
practising.
Class 4 – Yr 5 Obj.
Class 4 – Swimming

Strike a bowled ball; use a range of fielding skills, eg
catching, throwing, bowling, intercepting, with growing
control and consistency; work collaboratively in pairs, group
activities and small-sided games; use and apply the basic
rules consistently and fairly; understand and implement a
range of tactics in games; recognise the activities and
exercises that need including in a warm up; identify their own
strengths and suggest practices to help them improve.
