Summer Jam Handbook - Summer Jam Day Camp

Summer Jam Day Camp Handbook
INTRODUCTION
Welcome from the Founder & Director
Welcome from Maria L. Adams-Lawton,
Founder and Director of the Camp…
Welcome! My name is Maria L. Adams-Lawton, and I am the camp’s founder
and director. As you know, summer vacation can be strenuous for both parents
and children. While parents often times cannot deviate from the demands of
work schedules, children are often left unmonitored and as a result, children get
into trouble. I have dedicated my time and energy to helping children find ways
to enjoy summer.
We are glad that you decided to enroll your child in Summer Jam Day Camp.
We are equally excited to offer your child a safe, enriching environment filled
with positive educational and recreational activities.
The purpose of this handbook is to provide you and your child with useful
information. I have many healthy, educational, developmental and recreational
activities planned for this summer. My staff and I look forward to another
exciting summer!
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact my staff at (313) 229
-8406 and (313) 848-1090
Thank you,
Maria L. Adams-Lawton

any other behavior that is demeaning to another person is not allowed at the
Summer Jam Day Camp;

4. Not possess, sell, distribute, or use any alcoholic beverages, drugs, or cigarettes. If I
break this rule, I understand that I will be automatically expelled from the Summer
Jam Day Camp, with no refund of tuition and fees;

Disciplinary Procedures
Students who demonstrate behavioral problems will be sent to the time-out chair. The chair
will be located where staff can see the camper at all times. Time-out will start from 5 to 15
minutes, all time-outs will be documented and parents/guardians will be notified. If a camper
continues to demonstrate disruptive and disobedient behavior after the counselor, director
and parents/guardian have intervened with positive reinforcement; the camper will then be
expelled from the Summer Jam Day Camp, with no refund.
Camper’s Health & Safety
Campers should report to their counselor immediately if they have sustained an injury or are
not feeling well. If a camper gets a minor scratch, bump, or cut, they will be provided
bandages to put on themselves and parents/guardians will be notified when the camper is
picked up.
Parents/Guardians and Camper’s should review the Code of Conduct regarding behaviors,
which may endanger themselves as well as other campers.
Emergency Procedures
If the camper requires emergency services, EMS will be called first, then the parent/guardian.
The staff will have all necessary information about the child. Parents/Guardians will be
instructed to meet the child at the designated hospital. Camp staff will not sign any hospital
forms.
In a non-medical emergency, the parents/guardians will be notified immediately. If staff is
unable to reach the parent/guardian, then the alternate contact person will be notified.
