Dear Parents/Carers
We are writing to each parent of children in KS2. We have decided to post this letter due to the subject matter.
We have ‘safeguarding’ concerns about the impact video games are having on some of our pupils.
Over the past few weeks, we have dealt with several incidents in school where children have said highly
inappropriate things to other children, based on language or content they have witnessed whilst playing X-Box
or PlayStation games and other children who have been emotionally distressed by conversations in the
‘chat-rooms’.
We have taken the incidents seriously and on one occasion involved the police. In all incidents, the children
have told us they have been playing age 18 rated games. Please be aware that children being exposed to sexual
or violent images constitute a safeguarding concern both in the Cambridgeshire and Brooke Weston Child
Protection e-safety policies.
We wanted you, as parents, to be aware of the content of some of these games:
‘Grand Theft Auto’ contains:






Nudity
Murder, violence and gang crime
Prostitution
Gambling
Drug dealing and drug use
Stealing
‘Call of Duty’ contains:
 Murder and violence
 Torture
‘Gran Tourismo’ contains swearing. Minecraft can expose children to ‘talking’ to strangers on-line.
Did you know that you can put parental controls on gaming devices?
Were you aware that X-Box gold send free trial games for gamers to download..... and they are often 18 rated?
Do you know what your children are watching on You Tube?

If you would like to know more about how to keep your children safe whilst gaming, please come along to our
‘e-safety cafe’ at 9am on Thursday June 9th 2016.
Yours faithfully
Mrs C Norman
