Overview
The Hockey Foundation is organizing the Guinness World Record
highest altitude hockey game, to be played at approximately
14,000 feet above sea level in the Himalayan region of Ladakh,
India. As part of the fundraising efforts, a crowd-funding
campaign will be launched via Generosty.com (IndieGoGo) in
early April.
Event Details/Itinerary





Date: February 4-6, 2018
o for reference, the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang begin on February 9
Location: Changthang Region, Eastern Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, India
4-6 Teams will be eligible to play/compete, of which at least 2 teams will be comprised of ex-pats
The record-setting game will be between Team Hockey Foundation & Team India
Participants will arrive in India mid/late January via Delhi, fly to Leh (Ladakh), and after an altitude-acclimation
period of ~2 days will be driven to Changthang Region, where they will stay for ~3 nights before returning to Leh
The main goals of this event will be to:








Achieve the Guinness World Record for highest altitude hockey game
Stage the most religiously diverse hockey game on record (not eligible for GWR)
o there will be Christians (Protestant & Catholic), Jews, Muslims (Sunni/Shia), Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists,
as well as atheists, all playing in the same game/tournament.
Draw more attention to & support for ice hockey in India, Asia and developing countries
Draw more attention to THF’s mission/programming, such as empowering youth & women, promoting peace,
prosperity & social change, supporting environmental protection initiatives and community development
Raise funds for The Hockey Foundation to enable continuation/growth of our programming/impact
Promote the support of event partners
Include a substantial donation of hockey equipment (1000+ pieces) to support local clubs/associations
Donate regulation boards to the local arena (under construction) upon event conclusion
