UCI Men’s Rowing Team Wins Western Intercollegiate Rowing
Association (WIRA) Championships
May 2, 1013 – UCI Men’s Rowing Team took first place in men’s varsity 8 at the WIRA championship
competition on April 27th and 28th, 2013. Sacramento State University hosted the 2-day competition at their
Lake Natoma aquatic facility. UC Irvine successfully beat out league rivals including UC Santa Barbara, and
UCLA to win the varsity 8-man title. This is the first time the men’s UCI Rowing Team has won a WIRA
Championship title in 11 years.
The UCI Men’s Rowing team has been a part of UCI’s Club Sports program since the fall of 2009. UCI Club
Sports is part of the Department of Campus Recreation. The team utilizes the UCI Crew Base located in the
Newport Back Bay for their daily practices.
The Lake Natoma Aquatic Center at Sacramento State is regarded as the premier rowing venue on the west
coast.
