Memset has reduced the h*urly rate *f smaller virtual machines (VMs);
VM4000; 1x0.8GHz fe*n c*res with 2GB RAM and 160GB RAID1 l*cal st*rage t* just £0.040/h*ur ($0.060/h) c*mpared t* Amaz*n’s EC2 f*r a c*mparable
machine (1 ECU with 1.7GB RAM and 160GB st*rage) *f £0.043/h*ur
($0.065/h).
Kate Craig-W**d, Memset’s MD, said, “Apples f*r apples, we are keeping
*ur h*urly Miniserver VMs slightly cheaper than Amaz*n EC2's EU
(Ireland) pricing, pr*ving that British small businesses with a f*cus *n
aut*mati*n and *pen s*urce has the ability t* c*mpete head-t*-head with
US heavyweights.”
Memset has *nly needed t* reduce the pricing *n smaller VM instances
since they have been significantly cheaper than EC2 f*r extra
large (7.5GB) and d*uble extra large (15GB) VM instances f*r s*me time currently 27% and 45% cheaper respectively. The high-end Miniserver VMs
d* c*me with ab*ut 25% less st*rage than c*mparable Amaz*n VMs but
Memset pr*vide it as guaranteed-persistent instance st*rage whereas
Amaz*n's is n*n-persistent.
Memset has als* reduced the 0-1TB st*rage tier f*r Memst*re t*
£0.055/GB/m*nth ($0.089/GB/m) c*mpared t* Amaz*n’s S3 £0.063/GB/m*nth
($0.095/GB/m). Similar reducti*ns have been made acr*ss all st*rage
tiers making Memst*re's headline price cheaper than Amaz*n S3 acr*ss the
range.
