The BVN Soccer program will empower the participants to become complete student athletes. BVN Soccer Players will become positive role model for others, ambassadors for their school and soccer program whilst developing their sportsmanship and raising their level of competitiveness individually and for the program. The 4 pillars of the game (Physical, Psychological, Technical and Tactical) will be enforced in the planning of practices and will be emphasized at every practice and game. Core Values The following core values are what we shall use to define and establish ourselves as a leading soccer program in the Blue Valley School District: 1.Unity – Teamwork – The understanding that the team comes first and that the players are part of that program. 2.Trust – Interdependence – an atmosphere and climate of collaboration based on honest and open communication and mutual respect. 3.Discipline – A positive mental attitude – the pursuit of technical, tactical, mental and physical perfection. 4.Humility – Selflessness – giving everything you have towards the success of the team and the program. 5.Pride – Self Confidence – to be proud and honored to be a part of the BVN Boys Soccer Program. “STRIVE FOR FIVE” Pathway to Success AIMS: To make high school soccer FUN, ENJOYABLE and MEMORABLE. To produce great student athletes who are capable of maintaining high standards both on and off the soccer field. To provide a clear pathway of progression for players from any C Team to the Varsity team. To create a ‘Club’ like atmosphere and practice/playing environment. OBJECTIVES to achieve the AIMS: High quality Coaching Top quality equipment and facilities (turf fields will be a great addition for fall 2018) Pleasant working environment for both coaches and players. Medical, Nutritional and Physiotherapy expertise from John our athletic trainer. Educational support from teachers and coaches. Close working relationships with parents, players and club coaches. “STRIVE FOR FIVE” Pathway to Success (Cont.) Tryout Procedure: Tryouts can be both a stressful time for players and parents. Tryouts become a time of uncertainty as to which team a player will be placed on. All players will be overseen by ALL coaching staffed and judged on their technical, tactical, physical, psychological and social aspects of their game. Players will be ranked from #1 thru X (# of participants at tryouts) Teams will be formed as previously outlined Juniors who do not make JV can play C team. Cuts will be made to seniors who do not rank within the top 18/20 players in the program. Some players will be offered chances to become team managers/statisticians or video analysis recorders and will be lettered in the BVN Boys Soccer program for their off the field role if cut. New tryout methods and practices will be used to get a good assessment of each player. “STRIVE FOR FIVE” Pathway to Success (Cont.) Practices It is my job to ensure BVN Soccer coaches are well educated/trained and have high soccer IQ and knowledge of the game. This is crucial to the growth, development and pursuit of excellence within the BVN Soccer Program. All coaches are to provide high quality practice sessions that relate to previous or upcoming game scenarios. Coaches will provide individual and team feedback during practices and after games and at the end of season. Practices will be the foundation for team discipline and team cohesion. Players who are a disruption to the education, experience or team morale will be disciplined accordingly. Practices should be considered an environment to improve, gain experience and knowledge of the game and also a place to earn and compete for a position on the starting 11. Rule of 3 – Practice Cycle Practices and games are to be conditioned by the coaches under the “Rule of 3”. Play the game – Analyze weaknesses – Plan sessions based on identified weaknesses - ourselves and upcoming opponent Delivery of practices that re-emphasize and re-enforce the strengthening of the identified weaknesses - (Making practices game related so players can visualize the moments that happen whilst playing the game) “STRIVE FOR FIVE” How should BVN Boys Soccer play? After following the previous guidelines for the pathway to success, all BVN Boys soccer players representing the program at any level, should demonstrate the following qualities: Play with great pride for the school, team and the program Perform to their best ability regardless of the outcome (performance over outcome) Play with freedom of expression (flair, creativity and improvisation) Play with energy, fun and commitment Play with lots of character and resilience Play without fear of the event or opposition Play with good team shape and balance Play with good depth, width and penetration in attack Play with tight marking, delaying tactics, cover and concentration in defense Pass and move off the ball well Play with well rehearsed set plays Play with calmness/assurance on the ball Play with responsibility Play with a strong work ethic Be disciplined and organized on and off the field Play with a never – say – die attitude; a winning mentality Play with respect for the opposition and match officials at all times. “STRIVE FOR FIVE” Chains of communication Communication is vital to any success of the soccer program. Below are procedures for effective communications for all involved including the school, players and parents. Parents concerns (e.g. Game Time) Parent Player Coach and Assistant Player concern/issue (e.g. Personal issue/team issue) Player (and friend) Coach and/or assistant Athletic Director/School Admin (if needed) Coach issues with player (e.g. behavior) Coach and assistant Player (Athletic Director/Parents if issue is not resolved) We as coaches understand that It is often difficult, if not impossible, to look upon the child’s experiences objectively and without personal emotion. Within the high school environment, it is expected that the players are to be able to approach their coach and myself the head coach of the program to discuss matters. Parents are reminded to promote interaction and positive and effective communication with their peers and coaches. “STRIVE FOR FIVE”
