Primary Purpose of the
Job
To support the Director and SLT to develop and implement
interventions, activities and processes that will help to manage and
improve behaviour to enhance the well-being and general life
chances of our young people.

Responsibilities
To use skills and experience to develop the team, promote
relationships and create programmes to ensure that our young
people have the correct support and engage in sessions and activities
which actively promote and facilitate improvement in the wider
areas of personal development and learning.
MAIN DUTIES
1.
Take a lead role in articulating and delivering the school’s ethos and values, in the way
that children and young people with SEMH/BESD are educated and cared for.
2.
To develop and deliver a range of one to one programmes, resources and strategies
that provide general personal behavioural development for young people aged 11 –24.
3.
To be a compassionate professional who always operates within agreed legal,
ethical and professional boundaries when working with young people and ensures
that this is embedded within the school’s education, behaviour and wellbeing
provision. This includes maintaining care, confidentiality and respect.

To develop and deliver both planned and crisis intervention provisions and
strategies to be used in multiple settings including education, community and
home, that can be implemented by our own staff, other professionals and parents.
To develop person centred behavioural management plans for young people to be
used within the setting by our staff and also by external partner organisations,
parents and carers.
To work creatively using your own initiative and as part of the wider team to design
a range of tools and methods to deliver successful outcomes – using physical
activity, arts, media, photo, design, image, active learning and other kinaesthetic
tools to help the young people grasp, understand and demonstrate knowledge
about themselves.
To deliver group and one to one training and ‘behavioural’ supervision for other
staff to ’upskill’ the team’s performance in shaping the behaviour of individuals.
To produce a detailed assessment of needs, thoughts feelings and behaviours which
provide evidence of need for additional support from within and outside the
education sector, for example to pull down SEN funding and to evidence thresholds
for referrals for specific support within health or social care.
To work with external partners to develop strong connections in order to develop
young people who are both ready and able to learn (with adequate support) and are
ready to make progress with other areas of their life (healthy relationships, positive
choices, employment, recreation etc)
To identify and agree goals with the young person which can be shared, tracked and
measured.
To produce recorded evidence of progress which can be used to inform parents,
local authority funders and Ofsted.
To contribute to the curriculum offer and be involved in planning and timetabling of
termly and weekly delivery timetables.
A team player who is able to both and receive support from colleagues and other
professionals.

Evidence and extensive experience of effectively
delivering support programmes to targeted young
people with a range of emotional and behavioural
needs and challenges.
To be highly experienced in working with a multidisciplinary team and to work in partnership with
others in the best interest of children, young people,
and their families, and carers.
To be person centred. To be exceptionally resilient
and highly emotional intelligent.
Able to remain calm and consistent and make sound
decisions during moments of high stress.
Experienced in delivering behaviour change
interventions and programmes with children and
young people with complex additional needs related
to SEMH difficulties (preferably) within a school and
wider community environments.
To be experienced and able to intervene in areas of
youth offending: knives, gangs, conflict, drugs and
violent crime
To be experienced and able to intervene in areas of
mental health issues: eating, anxiety and attachment
disorders; PTSD and the resultant behaviours.
To be experienced and able to support young people
to develop emotional intelligence and resilience,
improve decision making and problem solving;
manage anger and aggression and develop both
socially and morally.
Qualified and experienced in delivering counselling
such as CBT, DBT, person centred counselling or SFT,
Qualified and experienced in delivering therapies
such as sports, art. music, drama or life coaching
Experienced and qualified in delivering interventions
such as yoga, mindfulness, stress management, MI,
NLP, breathing and relaxation techniques or EFT
Be organised and capable of planning own work and
contributing to the wider development of
interventions and programmes.
To have good knowledge of external partner
organisations including criminal justice, education,
health & social care.
Experience of managing people and co-ordinating
delivery of programmes
A strong team player able to work with staff in the
organisation with differing priorities and from
different disciplines e.g. teaching, sports, social work.
Full driving licence and vehicle available for business
use.

Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications/Training etc.
17. Degree in relevant subject area
18. Team Teach trained- or willingness to undertake the
training.
19. Extensive experience of using appropriate techniques
to manage, challenge and change negative behaviours
20. Experience of working within an SEN’s setting or
with children with SEMH/ BESD difficulties.
21. Good practical working knowledge of ICT and its
applications in a similar context.
