Bounce Back is a "serious game" of resilience and mental toughness. It gives players
the opportunity to practice and demonstrate the skills and the attitudes of resilience and
to coach others in applying these skills and attitudes. It requires that players place
themselves in challenging situations and describe how they would respond to the
challenge.
The game may be played alone or with another player or with a team. We suggest you
play with another person
Choice of Deck and Card Sort
The player[s] must choose a deck. Over 20 decks are available. The computer shuffles
the entire deck of cards before each game. A complete-game consists of six challenge
cards referred to as a set. The computer deals six challenge cards one at a time.
Two Player Game
Order of play is determined by coin toss. First player A is dealt a challenge card by the
computer. Player A begins answering the challenge. Player A marks the skills and the
attitudes he or she would use and describes how they would be applied to the
challenge. Player A then submits their responses. The game then displays the skills and
attitudes that it would suggest are the primary ones that could be applied to the
challenge. The Question Is Scored by Bounce Back and player a receives one point for
each suggested skill or attitude they include in their response. Play then continues with
player B.
Scoring
Players answer challenge, questions and score one point for each suggested skill or
attitude they apply in meeting a challenge.
Variations on the Game: Coach
Player A chooses a coach and a deck and draws a card. Player A responds to the
question.
The coach then proceeds to coach player A on their response to the question. The
coach may suggest skills or attitudes that can be used and may do this either in real
time or after reviewing players’ A's responses that were saved.
Play continues with player A drawing another question from the deck until player A has
responded to six questions, a set. Player A's score is totaled and discussed with the
coach.
