Little Blues News
November 2012
Welcome back to all our parents and I hope you all enjoyed your half term break.
We have a busy half term ahead of us so please make a note of dates for all our
events so you don’t miss out on all the fun!
Staff
Mary has now completed and passed her Level 2 NVQ qualification and will now be
working 4 mornings a week as part of the team.
Topic for this Half Term
Winter Festivals
We are using the theme of Winter Festivals to introduce the children to new areas
of learning this half term. We hope to find out about different traditions and cultural
events, celebrating the rich cultural diversity we have within the group.
If any of the children would like to bring anything connected to the topic to school we
would be delighted, but please make sure it is named. Thank you.
Children are welcome to bring in items for Show and Tell in circle time, but please
limit this to just 1 item! We would like the children to bring in items for the interest
table which tie in with the colour, sound or shape of the week and on Thursdays
we will all wear the colour of the week!!
The Colour and Shape, Number, Sound and Book of the week are posted on the
notice board for you to see, along with the weekly plans.
The Weekly Themes for this half term will be:
wk1 Fireworks/Guy Fawkes night
wk2 Diwali – Mahi’s mummy is coming to tell us all about Diwali
wk3 Christmas – Introducing the Nativity story/ Nativity Play
wk4 Christmas – Begin to practice songs/parts for the Nativity Play
wk5 Christmas – Dress rehearsals/ Practice Songs

All Parents -
Comfort Books
Please,Please,Please!!!!!
Please can you send in some photos of family, friends, favourite toys, places,
pets, activities, holidays etc. for our Comfort Books.
They will be used to create a small booklet for each child which will be shared with
staff and peers to encourage conversation about familiar things and provide comfort
when needed. It will also be a valuable resource showing the diversity of our group
and how each one of us is unique.
Contributions
If you feel you are able to a make a termly/half termly Voluntary Contribution
and bring the occasional box of tissues, bag of fruit or Veggies for snack this
would be very much appreciated!! Thank you!
NOTICES
Wet Weather!
Please can all children bring rain coats, Waterproof trousers or All in Ones and
Welly boots Please name all items!
Slippers or indoor shoes – please could you provide your child with some slippers
for indoors as this will help keep the carpets safe from dirty boots and shoes!
Also could all children bring a named water bottle to leave at nursery so we can
easily provide water for them to help themselves. Also we need Ice packs for their
lunch boxes to keep food cool.
What have we been doing today?
We have our Parents board and digital photo frame which will be updated daily to
show you what we have been doing that day, we hope that it will help you feel
involved and informed about nursery life!
Learning Journeys – Please return as soon as Possible!!!
We hope you enjoyed looking at your child’s Learning Journey! This is a valuable
tool for us to keep records of your child’s progress and must stress the importance of
you reading, commenting and returning it to us as soon as you can so we can
continue during this half term!
Policies – Our policies have been updated to comply with the New Revised EYFS
Statutory Framework and will be available for all Parents to see shortly.
Parents’ Guide to the new EYFS – “What is the EYFS?” I hear you ask! Well, all
your questions are answered in the Parent’s guide, a copy of which is available in
the parent’s area and also on the website where you can download it.
Dates for your Diaries
Children in Need – Friday 16th November – We will be doing our bit for Children In
need on Friday by having a Pyjama Breakfast Party!! Children should come dressed
in Pyjamas with funky hair styles or spotty faces and Donate £1 to dress up!
Be creative! We will also be doing a sponsored jog/walk around the football pitch so
please beg friends and family to donate!! Sponsor Forms will be provided!
Christmas Parties
The morning Children will have their Party on Tuesday 11th December and the
Afternoon children will have their party on Thursday 13th December. If your
child attends mornings but does not attend on a Tuesday morning they are invited to
come to the Afternoon party please. Times to be confirmed!
Nativity Play – Our Christmas performance will be on Wednesday 12th December
at 10:45am – 11:45am. We have chosen a short, simple nativity play called Happy
Birthday Jesus! for our first attempt! Parents will be asked to drop the children off at
about 10:15am (dressed in their costumes) and then take their seats in the bar area
( location to be confirmed) As space is limited we may need to limit tickets to 2 per
family. Once parts have been finalised we will need to ask for your help in providing
costumes for your child!! You will all be invited to stay for Tea/Coffee and Mince
Pies afterwards.
Christmas Holiday Club
Christmas club will be available week commencing – 17th-21st December
Hours will be 10-3pm and the cost will be £25 per day. We will do lots of lovely
Christmas crafts and baking and they will make lovely gifts for Grandparents!! A
sign-up sheet will be available nearer the time. Club will only run if there is a
minimum sign-up of 4-5 children per day, so please sign up!
Finally, the Gym will soon be opening upstairs, using the whole of the top floor and
plans to use the downstairs bar as a café! Exciting! However, this may cause some
changes for the nursery regarding safer access via the back door instead but I will
keep you informed, we are aiming to move the parents table and noticeboard to the
rear entrance and create more of a one way system for entrance/exit to make things
less crowded at busy times. We are also looking at changing the access to the toilets
so we have sole use of half the toilets, with access from inside the nursery which will
encourage independence!!
Thankyou.
