Juba, 20th July 2011 [Gurtong]- Anya Nya One Leader, and Presidential Advisor on Special Affairs to the
South Sudanese President, Hon. Joseph Lagu has called for togetherness and unity among the
leadership of the new nation and its citizens.
Hon. Lagu who spoke to Gurtong yesterday in Juba in an official interview on current leadership ladder
of the new Republic of South Sudan stressed that, acute challenges in the new nation can only be
overcome by her people through unity and togetherness.
The South Sudanese iconic leader, led people of the new nation during the Addis Ababa agreement held
in 1972 in which he disagreed with Khartoum for not fully granting the people of South Sudan their
autonomy.
Following allegations on the resignation of the Secretary General of the South Sudan’s ruling party, the
Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, SPLM, Lagu said it is a risky decision not to be emulated by
leaders of the new nation.
“If his resignation is true and effected, then it is not a good move,” Lagu commented following Pagan’s
alleged resignation from his Ministerial position as the Minister of Peace and CPA Implementation of the
South Sudan’s government.
“Because this is the time we need to be together and united in purpose,” Lagu stressed.
Media out lets have speculated that, Pagan Amum has resigned as a Minister, a move viewed by analysts
as a critical challenge in the new leadership of the Republic of South Sudan, and that can jeopardize a
smart move to curve the acute political, social and economic challenges.
A Juba based daily newspaper’s political opinion column read, “I am of the view that, President Kiir
should reject Pagan’s resignation from the government...We should acknowledge that people of South
Sudan managed to defeat Khartoum with support of Pagan.”
South Sudan faces possible leadership struggle as a challenge in administering justice and overcoming
her challenges.
After the elections last year and conduct of the South Sudan historic referendum on January 2011, the
region has been grumbling with external threats following the breakaway of senior Generals from SPLA.

dissatisfaction and unequal distribution of powers and resources by the government of South Sudan.
