2 hours away from playing football in a cup final is what the boys were told before kick off and
they seemed determined to make it this year. That was until the whistle blew for kick off and
Chaddy seemed to dissolve into a mere shadow of their world beating selves. For most of the first
half Boundary Park had the upper hand and were able to break through time and time again and
had it not been for Adam Fisher, Sam Jackson or Ellis Jenner Chaddy would have been chasing the
game early on. 20 minutes in and Chaddy seemed to finally find their feet with some good passing
work from the back, which led to Aaron breaking down the wing. Leaving his marker to “Eat his
dust” he whipped a cross in to find that nobody had followed him up and Boundary were able to
clear the ball. The game slowly progressed into a midfield battle with either side looking to feed
the forwards in on goal. Boundary were able to do this several times but each time the forward
was met with either a crunching tackle from Sam, Adam, Jordan or Matt at the back. Or if he
managed to get his shot off he was denied by the safe hands of Ellis, who was on top form
throughout.
Chaddy did manage to break again, this time with Clayton receiving the ball in the box, but trying
to take on one too many players the ball was eventually cleared before he could get his shot off.
Chaddy again sat back and allowed Boundary to pour shots at Ellis, but to Boundary’s annoyance
Ellis “Van der Saar” Jenner was able to stop every one of them.
Some good play started from the back with Ellis who played an early ball out to Matt. With a blue
shirt charging towards him Matt, thinking quickly, passed the ball to Pat who had come over to
support him. Pat looked up and saw Aaron on the wing; he clipped a perfect ball over everyone for
Aaron to run onto. With the full back dead in his tracks Aaron was ready to cross the ball in when a
strong tackle from the Boundary centre half sent the ball into touch and left Aaron face down on
the floor. But never fear, this didn’t stop the deadly winger from dishing out his own “Face in the
mud” tackles in his never ending attempts to put Chaddy Park in the lead.
The first half ended in much the same vein and some changes were in need for the second half.
Half Time : 0 - 0
2nd Half
After Ken had given “One of those talks” Chaddy Park picked up their game for the second half.
They began to break forward more, making use of their good passing skills. At the back, when
Boundary broke forward the attacks were dealt with efficiently and comfortably.
Chaddy had now taken control of the game and pushed forward with confidence and skill. On
several occasions Clayton, James Collins, Aaron and the ever-deadly Sam Carr found themselves in
positions to score but unfortunately nothing would come.
James Collins several times managed to force his way through the midfield but only for his
attempts to be cleared up by the back four. Likewise Sam Carr was at times, proving to be a
handful on the wing.
Chaddy continued to pile the pressure on the Boundary back four until eventually Clayton was in
the box, he skipped past one player, two players and just when everybody thought he’d done too
much, he skipped past a third and shot. The ball curved out of the reach of the goalkeeper and
settled in the bottom corner of the goal, Chaddy were taking control and looking like the team we
all know, 1-0.
Chaddy gained confidence from the goal and started to rain more attacks down on the Boundary
back four, one of these attacks earning them a free kick 10 yards outside the penalty area.
Matthew Cunningham was the man for the job and he stepped up to take it. Picking his spot he let
loose a shot that looked goal bound all the way, only for the Boundary keeper to get his hands to it
and make a decent save.
As the second half was drawing to an end Boundary upped their game and began a seemingly
constant attack on the Chaddy Park goal. Add this to the Chaddy Park midfield all turning into
strikers, the defence were left out-numbered on such an attack and Boundary were able to
equalise; with 10 minutes to go the game could go either way, 1-1.
Both teams were desperate for the winning goal and looking back on it Boundary wanted it more.
They pushed and pushed but fortunately were kept away by the back four and the safe hands of
Ellis. The whistle blew and the game carried on into extra time.
Extra Time
Both teams started extra time determined to win and the ball was played from end to end with
several chances cropping up for both sides. Cameron managed to break from the midfield,
powering his way through into the box only to watch his shot go wide. Another break for Chaddy
came when Connor went through one on one but again it wouldn’t come as his shot was parried
wide.
The minutes were ticking away and the management (who had been here before) were worried
that a goal in the last minute of extra time was going to diminish Chaddy Park’s chances of an
opportunity for some silverware. Both teams gave their all for the last couple of minutes but the
inevitable happened and the whistle blew for the end of extra time.
------------- Penalties -------------
There isn’t much you can say about a penalty shoot out, it can go either way. Out of the window
goes grit and determination, all that’s needed now is for the striker to pick a spot, stay true to his
decision and strike it well.
The penalties were as follows.
James Collins
Clayton Thomas
Aaron Clegg
Cameron Horner
Sam Jackson

And with the final (and one of the greatest penalties I’ve seen taken in a long time) Luc Crompton
put Chaddy Park through to the semi-final.
Overall today’s was a game that shouldn’t have gone to extra time; Chaddy Park had the skill and
talent to finish it off in the first 60 minutes. But good performances came throughout with Ellis on
the mark and quick with his hands playing one of his best games this season. Adam Fisher kept
tight control of the back four as well as making well-timed tackles throughout. Sam Jackson again
proved his skill at the back but also his talent in going forward when he moved into midfield. Good
performances from Jordan, who still on the recovery from an injury was a little off the mark at
times, but when he was needed he was there to get the job done. Matt was confident at full back,
playing some lovely football and many a time clipping well placed balls down the line for Aaron to
run onto. Aaron was deadly and uncontrollable out on the wing, forever leaving the full back for
dust he too had one of his best performances this season. The usual brick wall centre midfield
combination of Cameron Horner and Patrick Hollywood were still suffering from a hard, well fought
game the day before; however they were still able to contribute to a lot of the game and were
often on call to “Save the day”. Daniel Woodcock was on form out on the left, his confidence
growing each week. Just that little bit more and you’ll be in the starting 11 every week. Clayton
and Connor weren’t their usually deadly, high goal scoring selves today but they battled well up
front, with Clayton scoring the only goal in normal time.
The subs came on today and made their mark on the game. James Collins proved his effectiveness
going forward, his strength and skill nearly earned him a goal or two. However, on occasion just
look up and as Ken always says, “Play the simple ball”. James Ashton and James Stott both fought
hard when they came on and every week they pile more pressure on the starting 11 so soon they’ll
have their place. Luc Crompton and Sam Carr both contributed well to the game, Sam causing
many problems for the full back, with his pace, skill and determination. Luc put in a strong
performance at left back, showing his ability to pass and move when going forward and his
strength and desire when he wants to win the ball back. Hopefully, boys, the semi-final won’t be
quite as hectic. Let’s finish it before it gets to a penalty shoot out as I don’t know about you but
Jack certainly can’t go through that kind of stress again!
Whilst Man of the Match could have been awarded to a number of players, Sam Jackson, Adam
Fisher, Aaron Clegg, Matt Cunningham and Daniel Woodcock all had very good games. But in the
end without this one player on the pitch it WOULD have been a very different result, therefore Man
of the Match goes to Ellis Jenner.
Final score Won 6 – 5 after penalties
