Call area • Welcome the players • Check the time, the table number, the names • Check the back numbers • Ask for the colour of shirts (look at the shirts) • Ask for the name of the coach • Ask if they want to select balls • Check if the names are on the shirts (main draw) • Ask if they give their racket before match • Check the rackets • Record everything on the match sheet!! Racket control • Don’t touch the rubbers with fingers • Check immediately the general state of the rubbers (damages, size) to tell the player before he leaves the call area • Check the LARC, flatness, thickness • If you have doubt, ask the referee on duty • Put the racket in the bag/envelope, • with a label (time, table, name, country) on the bag. Schedule • Be ready in Call Area X minutes before the match time • The reserve and call area teams stay in the call area • • Go to the table 5 minutes before match time • • (see walk-in procedure) If a player does not come, wait for 5 minutes more • • to help for preparation and then call the referee Practice is allowed X minutes before time • by the players on their playing table WALKING-IN Procedure • Referee on duty informs you to • start the walking-in procedure • Go to the table by the way showed on the map • Enter the playing area (and go out by the same way) • Stand at the X (umpire or assistant) table/chair, • Put the rackets on the table (same side) and begin your duties (net – toss) Advice • For teams, X persons are allowed on the bench • For singles, ONLY ONE COACH is allowed • For doubles, 2 coaches may be allowed • Please look at the bench to avoid illegal advice • Assistant umpire informs the umpire about illegal advice • A yellow card is given to the whole bench (teams) • A red card will be given to the next offender • who will be sent at the other side of the hall. • Record it on the sheet Misbehaviour • React immediately to any misbehaviour, • Show the player that you are alert. • Ask the referee for any serious problem • Follow the procedure of penalty points. • Record any card on the match sheet • Place the cards on the scoreboard Service • Be alert from the first point • Call a let if the service is doubtful • Pay attention to: • • • • Place of the ball and hand Height of throw Verticality Visibility Time out – time keeping • Which sign do we use ? • Main umpire shows the white card, • Assistant puts the white card on the table and waits standing • Assistant removes the card and places it at the scoreboard • Usually, the assistant keeps the time of the game, and between. • The umpire keeps the time of time out. • Discuss with your partner.
