Squad training match - 4-0 to Burgandy shirts The weekend saw a competitive squad match, with boys playing 10-a-side on the full pitch with the "burgundy" home shirt team defeating the "yellow" bibs. The boys moved well with Felix Reimnitz, Ben Redmayne and Oscar Pitchford in particular covering a good deal of ground and Andrea Garzolini and Viktor Lado-Naess both threatening on the wing. Wesley Peterson took up some good positions in the D and picked up well-earned goals despite the best efforts of Hamish Frost and Oliver Duckworth in goal. It was a well-contested game and a good chance for the boys to adapt to moving the ball and themselves around a full size pitch. U14D v Guildford - Won 4-1 Another afternoon in the sun and a second victory for the Development Squad. Wimbledon started strongly, forcing a series of short corners following good approach play from Joost Den Hoedt. However, none were converted and it took a good finish from Barney Plant to break the deadlock. Guildford threatened on the break and Ben Mangat had to be alert in goal. Meanwhile we were a constant threat going forward and Josh Moran finished a good move with a great solo strike. A few minutes later Hugh Gerlach converted well at the back post - good reward for a lot of selfless running - and the game was effectively over. Guildford rallied and forced a goal, but credit to Jo Whittaker, Jack Sweeney and Seb Harper who held the team together which resulted in a strong finish from Josh for his second goal of the game. So a great team effort again. Plenty to work on in training before what is now a top of the table clash with Surbiton in two weeks time, but the boys should be proud of a great start to the season. Finally, big thanks to Paul for umpiring and all who made the journey down to Guildford U14A v Surbiton A tougher day, however, for the A team in the EH Cup against Surbiton. The team started well and held Surbiton well in the initial period, also carving out a couple of very good chances at the other end. Eventually, the pressure told and the very high-class Surbiton side took a high proportion of their chances and scored regularly throughout the rest of the game. The scoreline could have been more extreme but for some excellent saves by Demian Grisebech and the hard work of the defence and midfield. Special credit also to Wieger Dop for his tireless running and pressing up front which he maintained right to the end.
