NC Gravity Games and Expanded ‘Google Science Street’ to Offer Hands-On Exhibits, New Emphasis on ‘Engineered’ Cars, April 29 S.T.E.M. Education, Racing Thrills are Focus of 7th Annual Extravaganza in Downtown Lenoir (Lenoir, NC) - April 4, 2017 - Teams from throughout NC are signing up to compete in the expanded NC Gravity Games, April 29. In its seventh year, the gravity-powered cars will turn Downtown Lenoir, NC into “race street” -- while some of the state’s most cutting edge organizations bring S.T.E.M. education (science, technology, engineering, math) to life. So far, more than 50 teams -- including squads from Cherokee to Greensboro to Raleigh to Kill Devil Hills -- are on board. Registration closes at midnight EST on April 13. Event organizers strongly encourage returning teams to challenge themselves to an even greater degree this year by creating their cars from scratch and competing in the “Engineered” or “Engineering Challenge” divisions. Space in the kit car division is at capacity as is closed. We do have limited space in the “Engineered” or “Engineering Challenge” divisions. Organizers continue to enhance the full festival atmosphere with the expansion of the Google Science Street pavilion and food vendors along Main Street. In addition to opportunities to get hands on with the latest innovations from the tech giant, Google Science Street will include exhibits from Appalachian State University, Catawba Science Center, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center and UNC Department of Neuroscience among others to be announced.
