Installation Guide: How to Install the CirrusWorks Governor 1|CirrusWorks.Net Step 1 – CirrusWorks Governor Network Placement 1.1 Place your CirrusWorks Governor (CWG) in your equipment stack, below your routers, firewalls, etc. and above the main distribution switch point to your network. Note:The Governor operates within the LAN at the MAC or IP Address Layers (L2 or L3). As such, the Governor needs to be able to see all the traffic on LAN on a single upstream and a single downstream pair of connections. Please Consult the CirrusWorks Governor Product Guide for additional information on product placement within a network LAN. 1.2 The Governor comes in two (2) port and multi-port models. 2|CirrusWorks.Net - 2-Port Models: The two port units have only two network connections – upstream and downstream. Access to the platform administration and configuration tools is available using the WAN port. Figure 1L 2-Port Model - Multi-Port Models: The multiport systems have additional data ports and a maintenance port for use in more complex LAN environments. Figure 2: Multi-Port Model 1.3 Do not plug in the CWG power supply until instructed. Step 2 – DHCP and IP Address Configuration 2.1 By default, the CWG is configured to obtain a DHCP address, so it must sit behind a 3|CirrusWorks.Net device which can provide one. Note: Alternatively, you can place your device on a subnet which will allow you to access the default backdoor IP address into the CWG. This IP address is: 192.168.1. 200). 2.2 If you require a static IP configuration, you may configure one after initially booting the device in either a DHCP configuration, or by using the backdoor IP address above. Please consult the Product Guide: The CirrusWorks Governor Administrative Interface for additional information. 2.3 Prepare to cable your CWG to the network. Make sure that you install the CWG at an opportune time of day, as the installation process will cause your network to go down for a few minutes. 2.4 The back of the CWG is labeled with WAN and LAN ports. Cable your box to your network as follows: Insert the network WAN (upstream) cable into the Ethernet port labelled WAN. Insert your network LAN (downstream) cable to the Ethernet connector labelled LAN. Insert your optional network maintenance connection cable to the Ethernet connector labelled MGMT. Note: On CWG 100 units, ensure that the red power LED light in the upper right hand corner of the unit is illuminated after you apply power to the unit. If it is not, please press the power button to activate the “on” light. 2.6 The system requires two-to-three minutes to boot. After the initial boot is complete, the LCD display on the front panel will read: CirrusWorks CWG AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD A successful boot will display a DHCP address in the IP address field. If your CWG displays 0.0.0.0 in the IP address field, a DHCP address was not successfully obtained. Should this occur, check the directionality of your cables (upstream and downstream), and reboot the CWG. If the issue persists, check your DHCP server for potential problems. Step 3 – Software and Device Setup 3.1 You may now open a browser and enter the IP address shown on the CWG front panel into the address bar. A CWG login prompt will appear. The default username is “admin” and the default password is “password”. Note: CirrusWorks recommends immediately changing your login credentials for security purposes. Select the “Options” button on the main navigation strip, and use the “Set Admin Password” function to customize your login password. Please also set your device timezone, also accessible through the “Options” menu. 5|CirrusWorks.Net 3.2 Upon successfully logging in, click the “Tools” button. Select the “Force Update” option. This ensures that your system is running the most up-to-date version of the CWG software. 3.3 If you desire or require a static IP address configuration, you may now change your IP address settings by clicking the “Options” button in the navigation strip. (You may skip this step and proceed to section 4.1 if you do not require a static IP address for your CWG.) On the “Options” menu, click on “Set Static IP Address”. Enter your static IP address and select the “Set Static IP” button. The CWG will reboot automatically in its new static IP configuration. Note: If the CWG is not in the proper position in the network, move the system, re-cable as necessary, and reboot again when it is in its final Static IP environment. Step 4 – Automatic Updates Connectivity Test 4.1 The CWG is intended to be configured to receive automatic updates. To ensure that your CWG has access to all sites and servers required by the automatic updates function, click the “Tools” button in the navigation strip and select “CWG Network Connectivity Test” feature. If all site connections return as “pass”, your CWG is properly configured to receive automatic updates. If any of the connections fall, please ensure that you are not blocking any of the following sites: ftp.us.debian.org (http/80) security.debian.org (http/80) cwapi.ocsservers.com (http/80) cwapi.ocsservers.com (https/443) cirrusworks.ocsbeta.com (http/80) cwgstats.cirrusworks.net (ssh/22) 4.2 It is important that the Governor understand what device in the network is acting as the network gateway. Performing this test ensures that the Governor sees the proper address of the gateway router. To conduct this test, select the “CWG Gateway MAC Acquisition Test” link on the “Tools” page. 4.3 The installation and configuration of your CWG is now complete. 6|CirrusWorks.Net Need Help?
