Hi Lynden Youth Football players and parents!
It’s time to start getting serious about football! I know there’s baseball
tourneys and the great Razz fest, (love 3 on 3 basketball), but the
season is quickly approaching and I hope all of you are as excited as I
am. I have gotten some of the players fitted already but this week and
next it’s crunch time, so let’s get it done! Here is the schedule for more
fittings:
Monday July 14th thru Thursday July 17th- 5:00 to 7:00 pm
Friday and Saturday the 18th and 19th, off for the Razz fest
Sunday the 20th - 10am to 3pm
Monday the 21st thru Thursday the 24th - 5:00 to 7:00 pm
Friday the 25th- off (got to mow my lawn sometime!)
Saturday and Sunday the 26th and 27th - 10am to 3pm
All fittings take place at the Lynden Middle School in the “Sweat Box”
(haha), which is located out on the football field
My email is [email protected], so please send me an email for a
time to get these kids fitted properly and safely!
Now the schedule for real football stuff! The “draft days” will be the
29th and the 30th of July. For you Newbies, the “draft” consists of all the
players going through 6 different stations where we as coaches watch
these players run, pass, catch, and learn how to block, along with other
various football skill evaluations. The times for the draft will go like this
on Tuesday the 29th:
Seniors: (6th graders) - 5:00pm registration
Done by 6:45pm
Juniors: (4th/5th graders) - Registration starts at 6:00pm
6:30 to 7:30- Drill participation
Done by 7:45pm (hopefully)
Then we will reverse the times on Wednesday with the Juniors going
early and the Seniors after them.
After 7:45 that night, the coaches get together and the wrestling begins
on which player is placed on whose team... and oh that is sooo much
fun!
Thursday, August 1st at 5:30pm, all the players get together and we
announce the teams and then each coach takes his team for real
football drills.
A couple of things now —
First, no football gear on the first 2 nights, just shorts, shirt and football
shoes, so don’t embarrass your player and have him in full football
mode, he would be the only one that way!
Secondly, like all youth sports, boy do we have some paper work for
you! After that first night of the draft, each player will be given a
packet of papers for you to read and sign. There will be 3 forms to read
and sign and then an old report card or any other form that shows
which grade your player will be going into this next school term. Now
these forms are so important, because if not signed and brought back
to me or the coaches, your young football player won’t be able to play
in the games, so let’s get them done early and back to the coaches that
first week of football in August. And if you and your guy are on
vacation during the draft and the weeks after that, don’t worry, find me
when you get back and I will get you those forms! And let me know via
email about your vacation so we can get him on a team as well.
Ok, I have rambled enough, I will send out another email next week,
and as some of you know, many more of these to come!
