Forecast for Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament
By JD
Synopsis: Good morning. A broad upper-level LOW currently sits over Ontario. A broad trough/frontal boundary ahead of this LOW across the Mid-Atlantic
and into Tournament waters will lift NE'ward across S'rn New England and the Gulf of Maine through this evening and into earl y on the 18th.
HIGH PRESSURE is currently located to the SE of Nova Scotia, with an associated ridge extending W'ward towards the NE'rn US. This HIGH will slowly
shift E'ward past 55W through the 18th, persisting this ridging towards the E'rn US coast during this time frame.
Current Conditions: As of 0500 EDT, winds across the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament area are S-SW'ly at 10-15kts, with a few gusts to 17kts. These
winds are highest well offshore and lowest along the immediate coast. Seas are 2-3ft from the S-SW closer to the coast, and 3-5ft farther offshore. Skies
are mostly cloudy. Radar shows isolated showers/squalls, mainly from Cape Hatteras E'ward for 20-30nm. Some are producing locally gusty winds.
Temperatures are in the upper 70's, with visibilities near 10nm, except lower near showers/squalls.
Severe Weather Potential/Advisories: Isolated showers/squalls are expected today, with the best chance this morning, and could produce locally gusty
winds. There is also a Beach Hazards Statement for a HIGH threat of rip currents from Surf City N'ward to Duck as well as for the Outer Banks. Please
monitor NOAA All Hazards Radio on your VHF for the latest official warnings and advisories from The National Weather Service.
Conclusions: Expect an increasing S'ly wind flow today, with gusts to over 20kts possible this afternoon. This will result in slowly build ing seas, from 3-5ft
this morning to 5-7ft this afternoon, the lowest along the immediate coast. There is a threat for showers/squalls today, greatest this morning and less this
afternoon.
