Main players in the Mexican marine sector
• In Mexico the marine sector is concentrated in two main
activities:
1) vessel and
2) offshore platform construction activities
• Petroleros Mexicanos (PEMEX) is the most important player
and client in terms of the size of investment in the platform
market, although the platforms are constructed by third parties
(Mexican engineering companies)
• PEMEX is not investing much in offshore vessels, more than 90
of the vessels are subcontracted from local operators
• Mexican Navy and Mexican operators are important clients in
the vessel market
• Foreign shipyards and engineering companies not located in
Mexico operate the vessel construction industry
• Mexican engineering and construction companies dominate the
offshore platform construction industry
