your first choice. However, depending on where we need assistance, you may be scheduled for the 2 nd or 3rd choice. No
volunteers will be scheduled for multiple assignments unless the times do not overlap, but you are more than welcome to
stay and offer assistance as needed.

Step Out Volunteer Opportunities – Saturday, October 17, 2015
Set-Up Team (6:30am-9:00am)
Need: 30 volunteers
Check-in Location: TBD at Summit Park
Volunteer / Vendor Check-in (6:00am-11:45am)
Need: 12 volunteers
Check-In Location: TBD at Summit Park
Set up all shade tents, tables and chairs in registration area and pre-walk
area. Set-up food and drink station with water and fruit. Place
banners/signs on all tents, stage, etc. if needed. Set-up Start/Finish Line.
Set-up Registration Area. Set-up Health Fair and Exhibitor booths, tables
and chairs.
Check-in all volunteers, media personnel and vendors - direct to
assignments. Make sure all volunteers put on their t-shirts & nametags in
order to be identified as a Step Out volunteer. Answer any questions or
concerns of the volunteers. Keep the area clean and help tear down if
necessary.
Pre-Walk Food & Beverage Tent (6:00am-11:30am)
Need: 5 volunteers

Registration (7:00am-10:30am)
Need: 20 volunteers

Prepare pre-walk beverages such as hot chocolate, coffee, water. Set up
water in coolers. Be sure tables are lined with cloth. Keep supplies
replenished and the area in a tidy order as well as cleaning up leftovers
etc.
Volunteers must be able to handle a fast paced environment, answer
walker/runner questions, and follow directions.
 Walk Check-in: Check-in/register all walkers before the start.
 Red Strider Check-in: Red Striders are people living with diabetes.
They are why we walk/run! Check-in Red Striders, distribute t-shirts
& caps.
 5K Run Check-in: Check-in/register all runners before the start.
T-Shirt Distribution (7:00am-10:30am)
Need: 20 volunteers

Route Directors (9:00am-12:00pm)
Need: 20 volunteers

Give qualified walkers a t-shirt in a courteous manner. Walkers that
fundraise over $100 individually receive a t-shirt. Assist with the unpacking
of t-shirts and packing up of any t-shirts not distributed. Keep area tidy and
empty boxes dumped in the dumpster.
Route directors are positioned at one intersection along the route to not
only cheer, but direct all foot traffic along the course. We will provide foam
hands and route arrows for use.
Team Photo Area (8:30am-11:30am)
Need: 6 volunteers

Post-Walk Food & Beverage Tent (9:00am-12:30pm)
Need: 20 volunteers
Check-In Location: TBD at Summit Park
Assist the photographer with Team Photos. Encourage teams to make
signs and have team spirit. Locate teams who have photo reservations
prior to their time and assist in getting them to the photo area.
Prepare food such as slicing bagels, placing food on serving platters, and
assembling snack boxes. Set up cold drink area with large containers
filled with ice, water and drinks. Keep supplies replenished and the area
in a tidy order as well as cleaning up leftovers etc.
Water Stop (9:00am-12:00pm)
Need: 15 volunteers

Cheerers – Start/Finish Line (9:30am-12:00pm)
Need: unlimited number of volunteers
Check-In Location: TBD at Summit Park
Set up tables and chairs. Distribute water to passing walkers/runners.
Cheer on walkers as they pass your Water Stop.
All available volunteers will be asked to cheer on the walkers as they start
their walk/run and cross the finish line. Noisemakers, bubbles, signs and
other fun items will be provided to make the experience rewarding for the
volunteer and walker.
Kids Zone (9:00am-12:00pm)
Need: 10 volunteers

Monitor the kids’ area. Set up games and activities as needed. Encourage
kids to participate in all activities!
Goody Bags (10:00am-12:30pm)
Need: 10 volunteers
Check-In Location: TBD at Summit Park
Site Tear Down (11:30am-2:30pm)
Need: 35 volunteers
Check-In Location: TBD at Summit Park
Pass out empty goody bags as participants finish walk/run. Encourage all
to visit vendor booths.
Assist in securing the Step Out site back to its original state. Everything
that was put up now has to come down. All equipment and Step Out
materials must be packed up and loaded on trucks. All of the tables and
chairs have to be taken down and stacked for the movers to pick-up.
