Level 3 Coach Qualification Information for Learners About Growing The Game Growing The Game Ltd is an LTA/Skills Active accredited Coach Education Centre based in Oxfordshire. With over 60 years of tennis experience within our team we specialise in delivering training courses for tennis coaches who are looking to develop and progress their coaching careers. Being an LTA Coach Education Centre means we can deliver the widest range of coaching qualifications from Level 1 to Level 4, as well as a number of one day and half day CPD courses. About the course If you are considering a career in tennis coaching then this is the course for you. The Level 3 Qualification covers the key coaching skills required to be an effective coach as well as the tactical, technical, physical and mental information a coach needs to work with beginners and improvers. The Level 3 Coach Qualification is for people who want to work full time within the coaching profession within a range of settings including clubs, parks and schools. Course aims The main aims of the course include helping coaches to coach beginners and improvers in groups and individuals, organise relevant competitions for beginners and improvers, as well as understand the basics of business management. Learning outcomes On successful completion of the Coach Qualification learners should be able to: Motivate and inspire people to play tennis Organise relevant competitions Understand the competitive structure in the UK Effectively use the coaching process and its integral parts to improve player performance Work on their own with beginners and improvers in groups and individuals Manage the work of Level 1 and 2 Coaching Assistants Duration of the course 4 modules of 3 days plus 1 assessment day 9 hours coaching experience between each module Course structure The course is 12 days broken down into 4 modules of 3 days. The breaks between modules will be 3-6 weeks to allow coaches time to undertake 27 hours of coaching experience. During the course learners will need to work with an LTA Licensed Coach as their mentor. This will involve the mentor helping the learner to improve their coaching skills through work on the action plan provided by the course tutor. The mentor needs to have agreed to work with the learner before the course begins. Module One: Introduction to the Coach Qualification, game situations, tactical intentions, the coaching process and the tools to use to improve Days 1, 2 & 3 players performance, lesson structure, communication, organisation. 3-6 week break for a minimum of 9 hours coaching experience with an LTA licensed coach. Work on 1st4sport Level 3 portfolio. Module Two: Mini Tennis red, orange and green guidelines, goal setting, principles of practice, skill acquisition, lesson structure. Days 4, 5 & 6 3-6 week break for a minimum of 9 hours coaching experience with an LTA licensed coach. Work on 1st4sport Level 3 portfolio. Module Three: Lesson structure and coaching process for specific players, physical development, formative assessment, competition. Days 7, 8 & 9 3-6 week break for a minimum of 9 hours coaching experience with an LTA licensed coach. Completion of Level 3 portfolio. Module Four: Behaviour management, working with players with a disability, running a business, Level 3 final sign off. Days 10, 11 & 12 The course is assessed in two areas: Summative Assessment: Day 13 1. On court practical coaching assessment of group and individual lessons 2. Portfolio of evidence to be completed by Day 12 Learners must attend all the sessions on the course and pass all elements of the assessment criteria to be successful. As part of the Coach Qualification you will spend one day covering The Disability Awareness Course which covers the key information and skills required to be a coach who can deliver tennis sessions to all. Course pre-requisites Hold the Level 2 Coaching Assistant certificate Be LTA Registered or have a DBS (formerly known as CRB Enhanced Disclosure) less than 12 months old. Please note it may take up to 8 weeks for the DBS to be processed and you must be in receipt of the DBS upon booking Have (or have had) a rating of 6.1 or a Play Test Grade 1 Hold a valid certificate of competence in either First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), or will have successfully completed the OFQUAL Level 2 in First Aid Get a DBS (formerly known as CRB Enhanced Disclosure) processed through the LTA Become LTA Registered More information on Play Tests Non-attendance and withdrawal from the course If a learner withdraws from the course less than 21 working days before the start date, then the full course fee will be forfeited if the vacancy is not filled. Once learners have enrolled onto a course they must attend all days at the same venue. Under no circumstances can a learner move between venues without the prior consent of the Growing The Game coach education manager. In all cases, a transfer administration fee will apply. Non-attendance and withdrawal for whatever reason during the course will also result in the loss of the full course fee. Full terms and conditions can be found on the course application form. Following acceptance onto the course Details of the course venue, directions and times will be sent by Growing The Game Course resources will be given out by the tutor on the first day of the course The signed application form will be retained by Growing The Game Successful completion of the Level 3 Learners who are successful in all areas of assessment on the Level 3 will receive a certificate from 1st4Sport showing that they are a Level 3 qualified coach.
