THEME Attacking with Midfield 3 and Attacking 3 with Transition to Defend DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE (TECHNIQUE / SKILL) Phase of Play practice designed to improve the combinations, movement and awareness of space with the Midfield and Attackers when opposition play a high line ORGANISATION Area: Full Width of the pitch. Length: End line to edge of opposite box and 3 Gates positioned at halfway line along with two gates at either side of the box to lineout Blue Team: Midfield 3 and Attacking 3 v Yellow Team: Midfield 3, Back 4 and Goalkeeper 2 Target Blue players standing behind cones at either side in own half as seen above Blue team attack the Goal as they start in their own half. If Yellow team win the ball in their own half they must quickly Transition to Attack and attempt to pass or dribble through either of the three gates on the halfway line. If Yellow Team win the ball in opposition half the must attempt and play either Blue Target players in gates, who then can join in the attack (Full Backs) – progression: Yellow team attempt to dribble over either gate with a Target player acting as a Center Forward KEY FACTORS Blue Team Positions – Midfield 3: one Holding Midfielder (6) and 2 Advanced Midfielders (8 & 10), Attacking 3: Wide Left and Wide Right stay wide with Center Forward playing through the center Yellow Team Positions – Goalkeeper starts on edge of box, Back four start 5 yards off halfway line with Midfield 3 starting in opposition half Midfielder’s positional play and communication + Attackers movement are key - timing! Quality of pass, accuracy and pace - long pass with a purpose First touch/Body shape/Back foot Players looking to receive ball in between and behind the opposition lines – space in behind Encourage 1 v 1’s in Wide areas Position for crosses – encourage freedom and focus Transition to Defend can we win it back as quickly as possible as high up as possible NOTES Let players make their own decision. Blue target players act as Full Backs (Overload to Isolate)
