2014-june - Wild Things

Newsletter June 2014
We’re coming to the end of the academic year and it’s been a great one for Wild Things! We’ve
welcomed many new students, had some brilliant workshops, produced a wonderful show, held
our annual LAMDA examinations and started branching out into schools. Here is some more
information about recent and up and coming events at Wild Things:
LAMDA Examinations
We are delighted to announce that yet again we have achieved 100% passes for all of our students
who entered for their LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) examinations. Well
done to all of you that worked hard on your performance pieces and theory for your exams – the
hard work paid off! Examiners feedback will be passed to each student individually and certificates
will follow.
Workshops
In January, April and May of this year we hosted workshops from visiting industry professionals for
our older students. January saw ‘The Overlord of Doom’ teach our students how to create some
gory effects with stage make up, and April saw ‘Fully Formed Films’ work with our students on how
to make a short film. Fully Formed returned in May to create an amazing short trailer for our
forthcoming Halloween production, ‘Sweeney Todd’ (available to view on the website). I think we
can all agree that these workshops were an astounding success. We hope to host more workshops
next year!
End of Year Shows
We are now building up to our end of year shows. Our younger students (Imagination Group and
Character Group) are working towards a production of James and the Giant Peach. The show will
run at Denshaw Village Hall on 17th and 18th July, 7.30pm. Rehearsals for those with speaking parts
will be held at the usual Saturday class time and on a Wednesday 5.30-7pm, with an extra
rehearsal on the Monday of show week (14th July, 5.30-7pm). We will be calling for all of the
younger students to attend a couple of extra rehearsals nearer to the show date – if you could
pencil in 9th, 14th and 16th July please and we will confirm closer to those dates.
Our older group are working towards a show called ‘Daisy Pulls it Off’, which will be performed at
Denshaw Village Hall on Saturday 19th July at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Rehearsals are underway on a
Saturday 11.30-1.30 and Wednesday 7.30-9.30pm. Could our older students could also put 14th
July in their diaries as an extra rehearsal please. The show is light-hearted play about a young girl
who is the first ever to get a scholarship to an all girls’ boarding school and is suitable for all ages,
so if our younger students and their parents could come along and watch to support our older
students, that would be fab. Tickets for both shows are now available on the website.
Wild Things T-Shirts
We would like all of our students to wear a black Wild Things T-shirt to drama from September
onwards. Please ask one of us for an order form if you don’t already have one. There is a 10%
discount on T-Shirts for those ordering before the end of June.

Summer School (Beauty and the Beast)
This year’s summer school will run 10am-4pm, 28th July to 1st August at Denshaw Village Hall. This
is a wonderful week with children of a wide variety of ages creating a show together in a week. As
well as daily rehearsals, activities involve prop-making, scenery painting and much more. We also
have spaces for young people interested in lighting, sound and stage management. This year’s
summer school shows will be at 7.30pm on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd August. The cost for the
week is £90 and £85 for siblings for the whole week. Places are booking up quite fast this year – if
you would like to book your place, please speak to one of us, or book via the website.
Auditions
We are looking for 4 older boys between the ages of 14-21 to play some of the main parts in our
production of Sweeney Todd in October. Should you know anyone who may be interested, we are
holding auditions at the hall at 2pm on Saturday 5th July.
Fundraisers
Last year, we held a small fundraiser to raise funds towards props, costume and scenery for The
Grinch. We are hoping to do the same over the coming weeks for James and the Giant Peach and
Daisy Pulls it Off. We will let you know as soon as we have details.
