Autumn: Home Learning Challenge!
Weekly Tasks –
 Learn Autumn 1 spellings

 Learn your class’s oral and mental maths challenge – please find
time to practise your times tables
Here are your home learning ideas for this term. You need to
attempt at least one challenge from each subject area.
ENGLISH
Instructions: write a set of
instructions for someone to read when
playing your times table game (see
Maths)
ENGLISH
If you could create your own world,
what would it be like? Draw a detailed
picture, then write a paragraph
describing the world using lots of
adjectives – be imaginative. Use all of
your senses when thinking about your
description.
ENGLISH
We are looking at Harvest. Create an
acrostic poem about the Harvest
Festival
ENGLISH
Make a word search which includes
vocabulary linked to our Romans
theme.
SCIENCE
In Science we are looking at how sound
is made. Make an instrument at home
that can make sound.
THEME
Research and make an information
booklet about an aspect of Roman or
Celtic life, e.g. fashion, inventions,
food, houses or gods.

The names of many of the towns and
cities in Britain today are based on

Get arty! Create a piece of artwork
with a Roman theme, e.g. a painting,
drawing or mosaic. Or create a 3-D
model of a Roman artefact e.g. a piece
of jewellery, a shield, a house or
(model!) weapons.
MATHS
Design a times table game e.g. a board
game or a card game. Focus on a times
table that you find tricky to help you
and other Y4 pupils who are stuck!
Include instructions so that anyone
can play it. (See English)
their Roman names (e.g. London =
Londinium). Can you find out the
Roman and modern names of 10 other
places in Britain?
MATHS
Write five word problems which
involve x by 10 or ÷ by 10.
E.g. A birthday party at the Play Arena
costs £10 per child. If I invite 15
children, how much will it cost
altogether?
MATHS
Create your own Area robot. Draw a
robot on a squared piece of paper with
a head, arms, body and legs and
calculate the area of each body part.

Create your own "Figure Me Out"
poster using facts about yourself and
x and ÷. An example is shown below you can choose your own facts to
include!
