WW1 ‘BULLET PATCH’ FABRIC FROM FRENCH AIRCRAFT. The fabric is an interesting piece, brought back by a US soldier in WW1. In pencil on the reverse is ‘Boche bullet through French plane – brought down Chateau-Thierry July 1918’. The is a small hole which has been roughly patched with a similar uncoated piece of fabric. The hole is very small, I’m sure not from a bullet, more probably a small piece of shrapnel. The fabric itself only measures just over 6x6 cm. The patch itself has a cross crudely painted on it, you do often see photos of aircraft with patches; roundels or crosses depending on Nationality but its also possible the soldier did it. Fabric is certainly the fine weave and coating of other 100% genuine WW1 aircraft fabric I’ve had. Very unusual to find such a piece cut from a downed aircraft. I think its fantastic little piece
