Paige & Kasper win the Mixed Doubles Final
In a very close match (just prior to the Prize Giving), Paige and Kasper edged out
Deanne and Feliti by the slimmest of margins. Down 2-6, 3-5 Paige and Kasper won it
in the 3rd-set super tie-break.
A thrilling match to watch, and an epic lesson on court-position and shot-selection to
win in doubles.

2017 TNZS National Teams Event Winners
The combined 40+ Auckland / North Harbour Team which included 3 Northcote players – Julie Heaton, Angelique de
Jong and Deanne Alter - won the 2017 TNZS National Team Event.
While the rest of NZ struggled through Cyclone Debbie we spent three perfect Autumn days on courts around
Whangarei. South Auckland, our final opponents were tough, but we managed to out-double them in the end!
L to R: Julie Heaton, Glynnis Carolissen, Angelique de Jong, Deanne Alter

Thanks from Hospice North Shore
A big Thank-you from Hospice North Shore:
"Thank you for hosting the Northcote Tennis Fun Day in support of Hospice North Shore. We were so fortunate and
grateful for you gifting your courts and wonderful members for the day to help in our fundraising efforts.
Your event helped to raise $3700. This will allow us to provide Hospice care to those on the North Shore, absolutely free
of charge. This makes a huge difference, not only to a Hospice patient, but also to their partner, parent or child.
It’s the support of Northcote Tennis, and other community groups like you, that makes it possible for us to continue
caring for our community.
A special mention goes to Christine, Ivar, Gavin, Huw and Grant (our impromptu auctioneer!) for helping in organising
the day – as well as the individuals who were behind the scenes. Our volunteers enjoyed working alongside you all. "

Tennis tip - Aggressive doubles
Do you struggle to play as aggressively at the net in doubles as you would like?
You probably know that you should be aggressive at the net and poach whenever possible... but
somehow you are not able to make it happen even though you have been taught how to position
yourself.
