JOB DESCRIPTION POST TITLE: Head of Performance Swimming RESPONSIBLE TO: Corporate Aquatics Manager RESPONSIBLE FOR: Swimming Coaches DATE AGREED: September 2016 JOB PURPOSE: 1. Be responsible for the BPL Performance Swimming Program across all contracts, ensuring improvement in quality of service, efficient and effective operations and profitability. 2. To deliver a lead role in the management and development of the BPL Performance Swimming Programmes and assist the development of the Aquatic Programme across all contracts. To lead and take responsibility for all session programs ensuring key performance indicators are met while directly coaching the BPL Bassetlaw Performance A-Squad. 3. Implement an annual training and competition plan for BPL Bassetlaw Performance Swimming Programme to maximize the potential of all squad members based on LTAD and Governing Body guidelines inline with Swim 21. 4. To take a lead role in the marketing and implementation of outreach programs for aquatics in different community groups and schools as well as linking into local aquatic clubs and developing the aquatic pathways 5. To ensure payments both in cash and direct debit are collected before commencement of each month and that income and attendance are maximised across the full squad program. 6. Aid and assist to seek new business opportunities for BPL Performance Swimming programme KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 1. Responsible for the daily management of the Bassetlaw Performance Swimming Programme including the organisation of staffing levels of an appropriate standard ensuring a quality service is consistently provided on all sessions. 2. Working closely with British Swimming Programme and recommendations to deliver the BPL Performance Swimming Program 1 of 6 3. Maximise the performance of the members and coaches within the BPL Performance Swimming Programme 4. Maximise income, yield and attendance by effective management of the bookings system and ensuring squads are filled within the Bassetlaw BPL Performance Swimming Programme 5. Market and promote the aquatics and performance swimming programs in conjunction with the Corporate Aquatics Manager, thus increasing awareness around the aquatics and performance swimming programmes for local clubs. 6. Attend all appropriate competitions as outlined in the annual competition plan and develop local competitive opportunities within BPL Performance Swimming Programmes. 7. Organise and deliver regular meetings with all of the Bassetlaw squad coaches, to ensure that the performance swimming program continues to deliver the service required by the customers. Attend and report at management or committee meetings as required 8. Responsible for all recruitment, training, support and advise to the swimming coaches along with ensuring that all coaches are kept up to date with the latest developments and trends through continuous personal development. 9. Accountable for reporting on income (profit/loss), expenditure (staffing, resources), training & development of coaches along with new initiatives and general operational issues. 10. Accountable for the collection of payments for all bassetlaw performance provisions, utilizing the existing management systems in place. 11. To provide information and assist customers with enquiries, with the aim of turning enquiries into members. 12. Be able to coach a full range of abilities of the performance swimming programme and if required, assist the coaches with the coaching of lessons. 13. To build a resources library so that coaches can loan books, videos and other learning resources to further develop their knowledge surrounding coaching performance swimming 14. Develop positive links with local Aquatic Clubs across all contracts and aid the develop of these clubs 15. To conduct regular assessments of coaches including carrying out the annual performance appraisals, with the aim of improving performance, and further developing coaching skills. 16. With support from the aquatic team, promote and organise competitions, specialist sessions and both local and national initiatives to support the BPL Aquatics program. 2 of 6 And any other duties commensurate with the grade and falling within the scope of the post, as requested by Management. Able to motivate coaching staff, appraise performance and deliver on the job training as required. Good level of numeracy to a standard that facilitates accurate financial reporting on profit and viability Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to a high standard. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets Excellent planning and organisational skills Strong team-building skills. Ability to persuade others and facilitate effective procedural change. Understanding of performance swimming programs and the latest emerging trends. 4 of 6 Desirable Experience of staff supervision. Date: …………………………………………. 5 of 6 POSITION: Head of Performance Swimming Information to Candidates on Employment Terms and Conditions The following details outlining some of the main Terms and Conditions of Employment are for information only. They do not constitute a contractual agreement. A full Contract of Employment will be issued to the successful applicant on appointment. 1. Working Hours The normal hours of work will be 37 hours per week, to be worked to suit the needs of the service which may include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. 2. Holidays There are 20 days annual leave from 1 April to 31 March each year plus 8 Bank Holidays (pro rata for part-time staff). Staff appointed part way through a holiday year will receive a proportionate entitlement. 3. Salary The rate of pay will be up to £26,556 per annum. 4. Pension Staff will be eligible to join Nottinghamshire Local Government Pension Scheme. 5. Probationary Period All new appointments are subject to a probationary period of 6 months during which time suitability for the position appointed will be assessed. 6. Notice Period The notice period that will operate on both sides to terminate the Contract will be one month or, on the employer side, one week for every year of service (to a maximum of 12 weeks) if this is greater. 7.
