Thank you for your interest in playing adult coed softball with Hampden Recreation. Enclosed you will find the rules for the league. The league
is limited to 12 teams. Team spots are reserved on a first paid basis. Game times will have start times of 6:00 pm, 7:15 pm., and 8:30 pm. All
games will be held at the Ballfield Road Field, off the Old County Road in Hampden. Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free
to contact the Hampden Recreation Department at (207) 862-6451. This league will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings, July 10
through August 23, 2017. A Final Week Playoff will be held Sunday through Wednesday, August 27-30, 2017.
Slow-Pitch League Rules
 This is a non-competitive league. There will be a non-results based tournament the last week of play, schedule may vary the final week of
play. IF THE BATTING TEAM COMPLETES THEIR FULL BATTING ORDER IN A SINGLE INNING, PRIOR TO GETTING 3
OUTS, THE INNING WILL END AND THE OPPOSING TEAM WILL BE UP.
 The league will be umpired by the league supervisor.
 The leagues are designed for the enjoyment of all participants. Abusive language or physical abuse of any player, umpire, or spectator
will not be tolerated. Any player that violates the bounds of good sportsmanship will be subject to ejection from the game. Any player
ejected from the game will also be suspended from the next game, and may be subject to further disciplinary action by the Hampden
Recreation Department.
 The Director of the Hampden Recreation Department has the right to deny any team or individual from entering the league based upon
past actions in any of the department’s programs or leagues.
 All participants must be 18 years of age and/or have completed high school.
 No drugs or alcohol are allowed in the Ballfield Road complex, including the adjacent parking lot. For the health of our
participants, smoking is prohibited within the confines of the field.
 Teams are responsible to provide bats and a first aid kit for their team. Please be advised that there is no running water or ice available at
this site so please plan accordingly.
 Teams need to be uniformly colored.
 Team Contacts are responsible for contacting all team members regarding cancellations.
 Team Contacts are responsible for enforcing all league rules.
 Rosters for each night’s game may not include more than 12 players. Players may rotate into the 9 field positions as desired at each
inning. If the team chooses a 10th player, he/she may be placed in the outfield.
 Nine (9) players must be on the field or the team forfeits; three of these must be women. A team may field ten (10) players if they
have four women. The maximum number of men allowed in the field is six (6). TEAMS BATTING ORDER MUST
ALTERNATE BETWEEN GENDERS AT EACH UP, (UNTIL ALL OF ONE GENDER PLAYERS ARE UTILIZED.
 All foul balls and foul tips are strikes. You can strike out on a foul ball.

 If there are two strikes and the third hit is a foul ball, this is considered the third strike and results in an out.
 There will be a 15-minute warm-up. Games will be seven (7) innings or 60 minutes. No inning will be started later than 10 minutes
before the start of the next game.
 Due to the depth of the outfield fence, any ball that goes through the fence in fair territory will be a ground rule triple. A fair ball that
passes through the fence in foul territory will be a ground rule double.
 The ASA slow-pitch zone is when any part of the ball passes over the plate, between the back shoulder and front knee, as if the player
were standing adjacent to the plate. The strike zone is the same regardless of where the batter stands in the box.
 All batters will start with a 1-1 count.
 Distance between bases will be 70 ft. The pitching rubber remains 50 ft. from home plate.
 During regular season play, participants are allowed to play for one team and teams are allowed to “share” players to meet the needed
number of players on the field. During the final week of “tournament” play participants may play for one (same) team only during the
entirety of the week of playoffs. Teams will not be allowed to share players, and players cannot roster on more than one team.
 *There will be a single-elimination tournament in the final week, August 27-30, 2017. Since this is a non-competitive league, we cannot
use win-loss records to determine tourney seedings. Schedule will tentatively be:
Sunday: Three games, pairings drawn at random
Monday: Three games, pairings drawn at random
Tuesday: Three games, Sunday winners vs. Monday winners
Wednesday: Two games, semifinal, followed by championship. One of the three remaining teams will get a bye into the championship
game, format TBD.
At least nine people are expected to show up for each scheduled game. If that cannot be done, please give Hampden Recreation 24 hours
notice, so we can reschedule or put another team in your place. Any team that does not bring the required number of players three times
without proper notice will lose the opportunity to play the rest of the season.
