Strategic financial management for NSW public
schools
Focusing financial resources to improve student learning outcomes
A BOSTES registered one day course for principals and members of the school leadership team. RG00122
Overview
This course is designed to assist
principals and school leadership teams
in developing a strategic focus in
managing school financial resources in
the new environment of increased local
decision making authority for principals.
It recognises that the principal carries
the accountability for the financial
decisions of the school.
The course material focuses on the
strategic considerations in planning and
using financial resources to improve
student learning outcomes.
It would be useful for SAMs to attend
this course as they will be managing the
data entry and report generation relating
to the schools finances, and also
advising principals on the meaning of
specific items in reports. In this context
they should have an understanding of
the background considerations
principals undertake in making financial
decisions.
The SAM’s role is still related to
implementing the decisions of the
principal within the financial
management system, and advising the
principal on financial operational
matters.
