RAD DANCE CHALLENGE 2015 SINGAPORE Sunday 22 November 2015 Information Pack & Application Form Prize Sponsors: Capezio and OKH Ballet Centre RAD DANCE CHALLENGE 2015 SINGAPORE Application Closing Date: 22 August 2015 Entry is by application only. Date and Venue for the Final The Final will be held on Sunday, 22 November 2015 at the University Cultural Centre – Theatre. The timing will be confirmed after the closing date. Heats and Warm-Up Classes Competitors are required to attend the heats that will be conducted at a venue to be advised after the closing date. Warm-up classes will be conducted for all competitors before the heats. The short-listing of competitors will be done during the Heats. Audience are not admitted during the heats. Competitors will be judged on the performance of a ballet solo, originally choreographed by their RAD teacher, peer or themselves. The qualification age must be by the calendar year. There will be no refunds for withdrawals. Prize Sponsors Capezio and OKH Ballet Centre are the prize sponsors for trophies, product vouchers and cash prizes. Certificate All competitors will receive a certificate of participation. RAD DANCE CHALLENGE 2015 SINGAPORE Terms and Conditions Competitors should not be working as a full time dancer in a dance company. Competitors must be entered by a RAD registered teacher. Competitors must have done at least one RAD exam and hold a RAD Candidate ID number. Competitors must submit their last date of exam, level and age. Competitors must comply with the recommended age requirements. A photocopy proof of age must be submitted with the application form. Competitors participate in the RAD Dance Challenge at their own risk. Competitors shortlisted from the heats will participate in the Finals. The Adjudicator’s decision is final. Failure to comply with any rules and conditions will involve disqualification and barring from the competition. The RAD Dance Challenge may be cancelled by the Royal Academy of Dance if it fails to attract a viable number of participants. Full refunds will be made in these circumstances. The Royal Academy of Dance reserves the right to alter the advertised competition without prior notice. The information was correct at the time of printing. Judging Candidates will be adjudicated on their solo performance. Criteria for Assessment Candidates will be assessed on the following criteria for the solos:Technique Secure posture and weight placement, use of turn out Co-ordination of the whole body Sustained and balanced movements The ability to demonstrate a range of harmonious lines through the whole body Use of space The ability to perform a varied range of movement dynamics Music Rhythmical accuracy and timing Response to phrasing, atmosphere and dynamics Performance An ability to interpret and express the varying artistic qualities and appropriate styles Criteria for Judging Choreographic Award The recipient of this award is the choreographer, who, in the opinion of the judge, demonstrates the highest standard of choreography within the variation. The choreography will be assessed on the following elements: Structure Dynamics of movement Use of Space Depiction of theme or story Use of music/sound RAD DANCE CHALLENGE 2015 SINGAPORE Guidelines for Choreographers Choreographers who may be the student, their teacher or a peer, should create an original ballet solo not exceeding 1 minute and 30 seconds. Steps and movements should be made up from vocabulary appropriate to the candidate’s level. The choreography should not make any reference to characters, storylines or films that are still in copyright, e.g. Harry Potter, Billy Elliot, Avatar etc. Candidates may wear a simple costume and hand held props may be used if appropriate, however, no mask may be worn. Costumes must not make any reference to characters from films or musicals that are still in copyright, e.g. Harry Potter, Priates of the Caribbean, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, etc. Music The music should not exceed 1 minute and 30 seconds. The music must be taken from a recording which has been purchased legitimately or could be an original composition by the student/teacher or someone who has been collaborated with. Please note that only “topping and tailing” of recordings is permissible. There should be no “internal” cuts to the music as this will likely constitute an infringement of copyright. The music must be in CD audio format. Please consider the following points:How will your solo begin – before music, after music, with music? How will you communicate this information clearly to the sound operator? How does your music end. Remember it is easy to fade out music, but you cannot fade out yourself. You may choose any kind of music, however, if your music contains lyrics, this should not include any offensive, sexist or racist material. Candidates must bring two copies of their CD an hour before the start of the Heats and the Finals. The CDs must be handed in at registration during the Heats and Finals. Costumes & Shoes Teachers and candidates will select their own costumes. Costumes must be worn during the Heats and the Final. Small props may be used. No stage props allowed. No masks may be worn.
