Celebrating emerging talent in
the Harborough District
Go Gold performance level
Welcome
This celebration event is to recognise
the success of our local sporting
talent as well as the commitment
and support of coaches, clubs and
parents.
What is Go Gold?
Go Gold is a programme of athlete funding
facilitated by Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport.
Applications are invited annually and funding is
provided at Podium and Performance levels.
Active Harborough District is the Harborough
District Local Sports Alliance. Part of the role of
the LSA is to award the Performance level
funding.

Matthew Chilvers - Tennis
• Finished in the top 3 in every regional competition
during 2016.
• In February 2017 he was 2nd in singles and doubles at
the Northern Region Championships held in Leeds
• Ranked in the top 8 in the country
• Member of the East Midlands Tennis Squad for the
Special Olympics National Games to be held in
Sheffield in August
• Loughborough College FE Sports Awards Volunteer of
the year finalist
• Nominee for the Leicestershire LTA Volunteer of the
year award

Denika Millington - Netball
• Denika has moved up from Leicestershire County
Academy to East Midlands Regional Academy (2015 16) and been re-selected for 2016 -17.
• Selected for Midlands NPFL squad (2016)
• Denika hopes to improve her defensive and attacking
skills to become a more diverse player.

Tom Moorhouse - Hockey
• Tom has been invited to attend the U15 Nottingham
Performance Centre (1 year early)
• He was the U13 boys County squad captain and
came runners up in the England Hockey Junior
Assessment Centre tournament.
• Tom Also played in the National U13’s boys Media
Vision tournament and was selected for the UK Lions
national touring team squad.

Sam Moorhouse - Hockey
• Sam has also been invited to attend the England
Hockey Junior Performance Centre. He attends the
U17 South Midlands Performance Centre.
• Sam has continued to improve, being selected to play
for the 1st team club hockey this season (played for
2nd team last season)
• He also qualified for the school Midlands finals (the
team did not qualify last year)

Lottie Edwards - Trampoline
• National champion at NDP5 level
• Has completed the moves Rudi, Double Back
somersault and Full twisting back which are the
required moves for two levels higher than her
present level.
• 1st place in the area schools competition at U19 elite
girls.
• Lottie has improved her time of flight and the
execution of her moves and travelling.

Ailsa McDonald - Swimming
• Won the 50m BR final at the Scottish national
summer meet
• She became the junior and senior Northamptonshire
county record holder at 50m, 100, and 200m
breaststroke, breaking some records which had stood
for nearly 30 years.
• Ailsa has been selected for the Scottish swimming
National Senior Bronze squad (the equivalent of the
English talent programme)

Neve Grimes - Athletics
• Neve is a diverse athlete. She has successfully moved
from Cross Country to track – focussing on 800m /
1500m
• She won the Leicestershire Schools 800m and County
800 and 1500m.
• Since applying to Go Gold, Neve has completed a
successful trial and has been selected to attend
British Skeleton phase 1 training.

Jody Smith - Athletics
• 2016 Inter-county 200m champion
• Competed in the Midlands Indoor
Championships 2017 where he won Gold in
the U17 Men’s 60m and Silver in the U17
men’s 200m
• Jody has fought back from illness and injury to
see improvements in both his 100m and 200m
times.

Jordan Waine - Athletics
• 2000m steeplechase – 2nd place in the U20
Midlands Championships 2016 (while still
under 17)
• Ranked 4th in the UK for the 2000m
steeplechase.
• Jordan has fought her way back from injury
and continues to perform well in road and
cross country events as well as on the track.

Georgina Watson - Rugby
• Represented the Midlands in Rugby
• Has captained her club side
• Scored more tries last season than any other
season
• Has seen improvements in fitness and mind
set during a game due to previous Go Gold
funding and workshops.
• Has received an A* in GCSE PE which includes
practical performance of rugby.
