Principal’s Message
What a busy and eventful start to our new school year. Kenaston School has been a hub of activity,
extracurricular events, and learning. We have reinstituted a monthly newsletter with the hope that it
serves as a great source of information for our parents and community members. In the next few
weeks our School Community Council will be gathering information about more effective ways that
our school can communicate and engage with our stakeholders.
Over the next while parents and students will be learning more about Sun West School division’s
PeBL initiative and Kenaston School’s Self-Regulation program. PeBL is a new focus of our division to
use “Personlaized Electronic Blended Learning” to better meet the learning needs of all of our
students. This newsletter contains some information about this initiative. As well Kenaston School
has begun a Self-regulation program. Simply put Self-Regulation is the ability of our students to take
responsibility and ownership over their learning and behavior. Self-regulation is about student
initiative, motivation, responsibility and self-management. Please stay alert for more information
regarding these initiatives. The SCC is seeking parent and student input to find better ways to keep
our parents informed and involved in what we do at Kenaston school.
I cannot stress enough what a pleasure it has been to serve this school and community. Coming into
my second year I try to remember to celebrate daily, the excellent culture and environment that we
have in this school and community. Just recently we had a K-8 arts and culture day and our guest
presenters were overwhelmed at the positive experience that they had in our school. We have great
students, a great staff, great parents and a supportive community. Our goals as a school will
continue to improve, find ways to build on this positive culture and continue to raise our students in a
culture of excellence.
As always my door is always open and my phone is just an arm’s reach away. Please feel free to
contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Canadian Student Leadership Conference
Kenaston School is very excited to be sending five students to the Canadian Student Leadership Conference in
Edmunston, New Brunswick from September 24th to October 2nd. Bella Thomson, Mackenzie Beck, Leah
Libke and Alyssa Evashenko will be traveling with Mrs. Shannon Libke to represent Kenaston School while
Kennedi Libke will be traveling with Team Sun West to represent our school division. We are looking forward
to experiencing new ideas for school spirit and building positive school environments. A big thank-you to the
Kenaston Lions and our school’s SCC for their donations.
On Monday, October 3rd, Kenaston School and the DLC were really excited to be
hosting the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange which brought workshops for our
grade 1 to 8 students. These workshops included an active art experience in the
area of drama, music, visual arts, dance and writing. These professional artists
gave our students a first-hand experience in art creation while encouraging
independent and creative thinkers. A big thank-you to the Saskatchewan
Cultural Exchange for helping to fund this opportunity for our students.
Terry Fox Walk
Partnership with Kenaston School, Affinity Credit Union, & Riverbend Co-op
Wednesday, September 28, 2016
Kenaston School staff and students, along with community members, started our walk at 11:00 at
Veterans Park with photos taken and then followed Mick’s Way around the town. We ended back at the
school for a BBQ hamburger lunch generously provided by Affinity Credit Union and Riverbend Co-op -
Kenaston branches. The whole community raised a total of $5837.00 for The Terry Fox Foundation.
Way to go Kenaston!!!

Watch those buses!
Please be reminded that no vehicles may travel past loading/unloading school buses (when the
stop signs are out and the lights are flashing) in either direction.
Students may be crossing the roadway. Please wait for the buses to turn off their lights and pull in the
Stop arm before proceeding. Passing buses that have the Stop Arms out is extremely dangerous and
can result in hefty fines.
- Students – remember that driving during school hours is a privilege: be careful,
be safe, and follow the signs and rules of the road.
Mrs. Menzies and the Jr. Girls Volleyball Team:
The Jr Girls volleyball team began practice right at the beginning of September. We are a very young team,
learning lots of skills and battling as the underdog at every event we enter. The Girls have league night every
Tuesday at 4:30 and we have already played in 2 tournaments - the Loreburn RAVE and our Kenaston home
tournament.
Upcoming events are:
League Game vs Davidson at home - Oct 4 4:30
League Game hosting Loreburn - Oct 11 at 4:30
League Game at Outlook at 4:30
Tournaments in Outlook Oct 1 and In Davidson Oct 14/15
We will have sectional playoffs to be announced at the end of Octorber.

The golf season was a busy one during the month of September. We had a total of three golfers at the school
this year – one senior and two juniors. Practices at Davidson golf course at the beginning of the month prepared
each of the golfers for their various competitions. Carson competed in his first Senior District tournament on
September 13th in Biggar. He played a very solid round of golf, as he finished in the top ten! Ethan and
Jackson played in the Junior Sectional tournament in Davidson this same week. Both played well, and
Jackson’s score was good enough to move onto Districts the following week! This was held in Outlook, and it
was a great to see Jackson have fun competing against the best juniors in West Central. The golf team will
practice again in the spring, and we are always looking for new golfers (male and female). Please talk to Mr.
Marsh or anyone on the golf team if you want to get involved in this sport.
The Cross country season is in full swing now, and after our first meet the team is looking very strong, with
Aslyee Blenkinsop taking first in her age group and both Brody Ringdal and Spohie Haugen take seconds in the
meets. As you can tell Kenaston is being represented incredibly well. Our next meet took us to all the way to
Biggar to compete on their extremely challenging course. Then the week after we will hit the road again and
travel to Eston for districsts on Oct 5th, the team is very excited about our prospects this season and is having a
lot of fun.

From the Front Office
Just a quick reminder that the registration packages that were sent home with the youngest in the
family, were due on Friday, September 16, 2016. Please review, make any changes if
necessary, sign, and return to the school along with your student fees. A big thank you to
those who have already completed this very important task. We need to keep our information up to
date.
And, please remember to contact the school if your child will be absent for any reason. We need to
keep track of all our students. We really need to hear from a parent rather that a message through a
sibling, which can be lost or mixed-up. A phone call, email, text, or note is all that is needed.
P.A.R.T.Y. 2016
It’s P.A.R.T.Y. Time! On October 27, 2016, the Grade 10 students from Davidson, Kenaston, Loreburn, and Craik schools
will participate in the P.A.R.T.Y. Program in Davidson. We are very grateful for all the community involvement helping to
make this day possible.
P.A.R.T.Y. stands for Preventing Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth. Throughout the day, the Grade 10 students
will experience what it is like to be in the place of an injury survivor. The day starts with an opening presentation and
discussion about smart versus stupid risk. The students then travel to a mock crash scene put on by the local Fire
Department, RCMP, and EMS. The students will then proceed to small group presentations where they will hear from
each of the following: RCMP, Addictions Services, Rehabilitation, EMS, ER Nurse, and finally the Funeral Home. The day
will conclude with an injury survivor speaking about their injury and what life has been like. Lunch will be provided for
the students and they will be given a scenario and an injury which they will be required to mimic as they eat their lunch!
The day will have a huge impact on students, leaving them thinking about their choices and the risks they are willing to
take.
If you are interested in volunteering for the day, please contact Liza Dahl, Sun West Addictions Educator, at 306-5617783.
