The UNESCO Liaison Office and Representation to the European Institutions
The UNESCO Liaison Office in Brussels is in charge of developing a closer coordination and cooperation
with the European Union institutions. This cooperation is looked for in the fields of UNESCO’s mandate;
education, science, culture and communication. The Office assists the UNESCO Secretariat in Paris to
gradually develop a strategic partnership between UNESCO and the EU, by strengthening the visibility of
UNESCO and its actions in the European landscape, by elaborating common strategies about shared
priorities and by joining forces in areas of mutual interest. The Office plays a key role in bringing closer
UNESCO and the European Union.
Description of internship
The Office is looking for an intern to start 04 September 2017, for a period of 4 to 6 months.
Under the overall responsibility of the Director and the direct supervision of her/his supervisor, the intern
will:






Assist the Liaison Office with regards to the promotion and visibility of the Liaison Office's activities in
the field of Communication-Information (CI) in particular through the Office's website or any other
initiative or organization of events;
Follow-up with obtaining latest information from the Field Offices regarding EU-funded Projects in the
field of Communication-Information and assist in ensuring the visibility of these projects through the
Office’s website;
Support the Office in identifying best practices to maximize the impact and visibility of UNESCO in
Brussels;
Assist the staff members of the Office with regards to the monitoring of policy and funding opportunities
in the field of Communication-Information (CI);
Write minutes/notes/reports on topics of relevance to the Office;
Assist the Liaison Office in continuing to enhance the working relationship with other UN organizations
and UNESCO partners present in Brussels, by participating in meetings and events organized by the
UN team in Brussels.
Required qualifications:


Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the UNESCO;
Master’s degree in communication or information sciences, international relations, political science or
in any other field related to the themes addressed; Internships are only for students currently pursuing
studies;

Some relevant professional experience on freedom of expression and media development, or relevant
related communication and information theme would be an asset;
Experience in organizing events and strong skills in the application of communication technologies
Communication and organizational skills, flexibility, capacity of initiative, positive attitude, ability to
work in team;
Good understanding of the functioning of the European Union;
Fluency in English. Knowledge in French is strength;
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud
(Photoshop and Illustrator) and social media would be an asset.
