This was our 4th year to show our appreciation to our shareholders, customers and friends with our annual fall celebration. We didn’t let a little wind keep us from putting on a great party. The music of the Full Throttle Band along with enjoying some great food and drinks made it a perfect evening. Thank you very much for allowing us to be YOUR Hometown Bank! Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm - A Family Affair Bill, Sandy, Meghan, Ann, Khloe, Wayne and Austin Bishop How long have you been growing pumpkins and what made you choose pumpkins? The first pumpkins were planted in 1973, so this is our 41st year. We had a small field that Dad wasn’t planting in anything. Mom had been a teacher and wanted to get kids out to a farm on a field trip. She thought pumpkins would be a good way to get them to come. What makes our area good for growing pumpkins? Just about anything grows well here. It can be a little hotter here in the summer than what is ideal for pumpkins but they still do well. Our dry summers are good because high humidity can promote mildews which are hard on pumpkins. How many varieties do you grow and what are your personal favorites? We grow 60 or 70 varieties of pumpkins, squash, and gourds. My favorite probably is Winter Luxury, which is an heirloom variety we use in our pumpkin pies. We also grew a new pink variety this year called Porcelain Doll, which raises money for breast cancer research. We will plant lots more of those next year because the response to them has been really positive. How many people do you have working at the Pumpkin Farm? We have 6 full time people all year. We add about 30 for our spring Hamburger Farm field trip. This fall we added 370 temporary people. How has Bank of Feather River helped your business? We had been doing the bulk of our business with another bank for many years. Earlier this year, they told us they would be instituting various new charges costing us several thousand dollars per year. We knew we needed to move to a small bank. I talked to three banks in the community and Bank of Feather River was by far the most responsive to our needs. They were able to customize a fee schedule for us that will cut our banking fees approximately in half. They were also able to coordinate a more secure way for us to make cash deposits. Bank of Feather River made the effort to understand our needs and came up with solutions that work. After the pumpkin season is over, what do you like to do to relax? Ann and I like to travel. We were in England when the future king was born and got interviewed on the street by the BBC. We also like to spend time with our three grown children and our three granddaughters. We do spend lots of time working on the short and long term future of the business all year. What is your favorite thing to eat at the Pumpkin Farm? French Apple Pie, Pumpkin Bread, Apple Dumplings, Pumpkin Apple Muffins, Corn Dogs, Roasted Corn, Walnut Pie, … I could go on. BANK OF FEATHER RIVER · YOUR HOMETOWN BANKING TEAM 4
