Articulation Agreements- CSU, UC, Independent Institutions What is articulation? Articulation is a process between two educational institutions or between one college and an educational system (such as UC or CSU) wherein curriculum is reviewed in order to determine whether the courses are comparable to each other. This process is completed to help transfer students make a smooth transition (typically from the community college to a university/college) without experiencing a delay or duplication of coursework. Courses at the sending college (i.e. Hartnell College) are identified as comparable to courses at the receiving university. This allows students to fulfill a university requirement by taking an identified comparable course (articulated course) at Hartnell College. This articulation agreement may be presented as a course-to-course for lower division major preparation and/or for general education-breadth requirements. In some cases, courses are only identified as elective courses. This means that though the units will transfer, the course does not fulfill any specific requirements other than as transferable units. At Hartnell College, we maintain articulation agreements with every University of California campus and virtually every California State University campus, as well as with numerous independent (private) and/or out-of-state institutions. The most recent articulation agreements with CSU and UC campuses are available on ASSIST, the official repository for CSU, UC, and community college articulation information in California. Please consult a counselor for any questions regarding information obtained via ASSIST. These universities is where the largest number of Hartnell College students transfer. Hartnell College also maintains articulation agreements and links to lists of transferable courses with dozens of independent and out-of-state colleges and universities. The Transfer Center maintains hard copies of most agreements and maintains a substantial library of university catalogs. Nearly every U.S. college catalog is available online at College Source. Students are advised to always meet with a counselor to confirm that transfer courses you plan to complete are aligned with the most up-to-date agreements. For articulation agreements between Hartnell College and any UC or CSU Campus, access ASSIST. Lcook_updated 2016 Independent (Private) Universities Transfer Pattern Agreements Certain private universities have completed course agreements with Hartnell College to facilitate student transfer. The following universities have provided students with a course transfer pattern that would maximize the credits earned at Hartnell: Independent California College/University Transfer Guide and Agreements In-State Independent College/Universities: Brandman University https://portal.chapman.edu/sites/oc/registrar/cucArticulationCA/default.aspx Cogswell Polytechnical University http://www.cogswell.edu/articulation/Cogswell_Hartnelll_Articulation.pdf Golden Gate University http://www.ggu.edu/cas/articulate.do John F. While Stanford has no articulation agreements with any college or institution, we have found that a course generally receives transfer credit at Stanford if it meets the following conditions: It is completed at an accredited institution It is substantially similar to courses offered at Stanford It is completed with a grade of C or better Lcook_updated 2016 It does not duplicate, overlap or regress previous coursework The transferability of specific courses is ultimately determined by the Office of the University Registrar once students are admitted. This policy may change from year to year, so you should always consult the most recent Stanford Bulletin and the Office of the University Registrar for the most current information. California College of the Arts https://www.cca.edu/admissions/undergrad/transfer-credit California community college students can use the ASSIST website in conjunction with CCA's CSU Breadth Chart or the Inter-segmental General Education Transfer Curriculum [(IGETC)] for humanities and science course equivalences. USC- University of California has suspended all transfer articulation agreements with any community college sending less than 10 students to their institution each year. The stated in a letter that they do not have the manpower to continue to work with community colleges that do not transfer students to their university. Out-of-State Universities Transferring to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU Transfer) And, thanks to an agreement signed March 17, 2015 between the California Community Colleges and nine historically black colleges and universities, all California community college students who complete certain academic requirements are now guaranteed transfer to a participating historically black college and university campus. The nine participating institutions are: Bennett College, Greensboro, N.C. Dillard University, New Orleans, La. Fisk University, Nashville, Tenn. Lincoln University of Missouri, Jefferson City, Mo. Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Ark. Stillman College, Tuscaloosa, Ala. Talladega College, Talladega, Ala. Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Ala. Wiley College, Marshall, Texas (13 more HBCU are expected to sign the agreement in late Spring 2016) Important Note Regarding WASC Accreditation Many WASC accredited colleges, such as Hartnell College, do not accept credits from U.S. colleges that are not accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) or one of the other five regional accrediting bodies (Middle States, New England, North Central, Northwest, or Southern). This is an important consideration for students who might want to transfer the credits back to Hartnell College or eventually transfer again to another college, or for students who may eventually attend graduate school for advanced degrees such as a master's, doctorate or professional program such as law or medicine.
