JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary
You will be directly responsible to the Director of Education and responsible for the organisation,
management and delivery of the UK-wide Football Academy, ensuring the delivery of excellence in
all areas and the achievement of Sentinel Leisure Trust’s (SLT) Business Plan.
A key focus of the role is to develop and deliver elite player pathways for the Academy.
You will manage the football coaches across each of the sites and the coaching programme to
ensure smooth and successful delivery is achieved.
A key element to your role within SLT is to identify, plan and assist with the training and development
of staff to ensure they are contributing at all times to the achievement of SLT’s business targets.
Job Activities
Policy and Service Delivery
1.
To organise and manage all coaching programmes for the Football Academy, developing and
implementing programmes that are standardised throughout the organisation.
2.
To implement and monitor the Academy Coaching Syllabus and ensure it meets the Football
Academy criteria including operational and legal requirements – coaching style, child
protection, health & safety, first aid, diet & nutrition etc.
3.
To organise, manage and deliver the Academy’s policies and procedures for all Academy
players.
4.
To embrace and develop modern coaching principles and philosophies.
5.
To organise and oversee the entry and exit strategies of players, developing and delivering
elite player pathways within the Academy programme.
6.
Structure and chair Academy meetings with all coaches and Tutors in conjunction with the
Director of education.
7.
Co- ordinate all Academy fixtures through close liaison with administration staff and other
Clubs fixture secretaries and other officials.
8.
Ensure that young players train for quality and development and that the rules and
regulations of the Academy and the culture and philosophy are encouraged at all times.
9.
To develop and establish an extensive ‘scouting ‘network in the locality to provide contacts
and information on all players with potential and assist in the development of effective and
sustainable relationships with schools, local clubs, community groups and professional clubs
in order to build a strong base for the club’s Academy.

10.
Formulate fixtures with local football clubs and professional clubs and ensure these games
are covered and observed to enable the club database of player information is maintained
and updated and all players with potential are followed up correctly.
11.
Work closely with local schools and junior clubs, parents, teachers, managers, coaches and
scouts to develop strong relationships
12.
Regularly monitor and evaluate the performance of each Centre, providing the Director of
Education with a performance report.
Staffing
13.
To be responsible for the management, development and supervision of the Academy
coaching staff, ensuring they maintain and deliver the highest professional standards at all
times.
14.
Support the Education team with their delivery and recruitment.
15.
Provide regular updates on all Academy activity and player progress to staff and the Director
of Education.
Health and Safety
16.
To report all accidents and incidents together with complying with all relevant Health and
Safety directives, including COSHH, and reporting to the HSE and the Director of Education
as necessary.
17.
Ensure all staff you are responsible for are trained in dealing with any potential incident that
may involve any claim being made against SLT.
18.
Comply with SLT’s Health and Safety Policy at all times.
Contract Management
19.
To maintain a close and positive working relationship with on-site Facility Managers and staff.
Public Relations
20.
Present and promote an appropriate public image in representing the Football Academy
21.
To positively respond to feedback and, wherever possible, introduce improvements to the
service and ensure feedback is communicated to the appropriate staff.
22.
To respond to all appropriate correspondence within agreed timescales.
Other duties
23.
To comply at all times with SLT’s Disciplinary Policy.
24.
Take reasonable steps at all times to ensure the health and safety of yourself, other staff and
members of the public who may be affected by your actions or omissions at work.
25.
Undertake such other related duties as may be allocated from time to time by the Managing
Director.
