Main Aims of the Post
Job Summary
To work under the direction of the manager and deputise for her and the
Deputy Manager as and when required.
To support the aims and objectives of the nursery and assist the manager in
the delivery of a high quality service for children from birth to five.
To provide high standards of childcare and education which will include
managing staff and overseeing day to day operations within age specific
rooms.
Provide a safe and caring environment where children can develop
emotionally and socially with adults and other children.
Model good practice at all times with children, their parents and other partner
agencies.
Main duties
To promote the aims and objectives of the nursery to parents, staff and
visitors
To deputise in the absence of the manager and deputy manager and to take
on additional duties to ensure all procedures are followed.
Ensure all staff work together as a team and respond to any difficulties with
sensitivity regard to all staffs point of view.
Support staff with planning, Learning Journeys and areas of responsibility in
line with EYFS requirements.
Develop a clear understanding of when to delegate tasks to others.
To assist the manager in achieving and maintaining high standards within the
nursery in line with EYFS
To assist in the day to day running of the nursery ensuring that child : staff
ratios are maintained at all times
To assist in ordering supplies when needed, preparation and maintenance of
materials and equipment
To assist with the development and implementation of systems to monitor and
record child development
To assist the manager in the supervision of training students in placement
within the nursery
Responsible for ensuring a safe, stimulating environment based on the
principles of play that promote the social, physical, intellectual and emotional
needs of each child
Responsible for the health and safety standards appropriate for the needs of
young children and ensuring staff compliance and awareness
Responsible for ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are
maintained at all times
Responsible for ensuring the environment meets the needs of individual
children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds and stages of
development
Responsible for delivering play opportunities that reflect the diverse needs of
the community served
To carry out regular supervisions and appraisals of staff in line with the
company’s policies and procedures.
To report to the manager and manage staff performance issues relating to
conduct, practice and fall in standards.
To liase with parents, other family members and partner agencies to ensure
that the particular needs of children are met.
To be involved in out of hours activities e.g. training, planning meetings,
weekend events monthly staff meetings etc
To undertake development and planning of creative delivery of play activities
that meet all areas of the early years curriculum, including leading on the daily
setting out of planned activities and cleaning up of equipment
To maintain records as necessary including register, accident and incident
books, safeguarding records, monitoring and assessments and ensure that
essential medication is safely administered, secred and recorded.
To provide the children with a meal, light snack and drinks, including ensuring
appropriate measures are in place for special dietary needs.
To encourage parents to get involved in all aspects of their child’s care
To undertake such duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may
be determined from time to time by the manager

Employment Experience
Experience of delivering high quality early education and
Care services to children ranging in ages from six months
to five years.

Experience of working within a childcare setting and
understanding the different roles and responsibilities within the
setting.
1.3 Experience of partnership working with parents and
professionals.

Educational Background/Training
2.1 A recognised qualification to at least Level 3 in childcare
or equivalent
2.2 Up to date and recommended Safeguarding training
relevant to role

Knowledge
3.1
Extensive knowledge of the revised Early Years
Foundation Stage (2012) and its implementation in a day-care
setting.
3.2
Knowledge of the three prime and four specific areas of
learning and the implications on practise.
3.3 Good working knowledge of the Special Needs Code of
Practice and experience of completing reports on individual
children.
3.3
Have knowledge of OFSTED Standards and be able to
translate this into high quality childcare
3.4
Thorough understanding of how to safeguard children and
their families.

Skills
4.1 Ability to keep clear, accurate records and to update
according to children’s individual needs and family
circumstances.
4.2 Ability to supervise and support staff including volunteers
and students.
4.3 Ability to encourage parental involvement in the nursery
including contributing to children’s Learning Journeys and

Ability to complete individual and group plans in line with
the Early Years Foundation Stage and support less
experienced staff members with completing this task.

excellent childcare and the ability to enthuse others to do the

4.7 Ability to work as part of a team, recognising individual and
group strengths and identifiying development needs.
4.8 Ability to promote Equal Opportunities and demonstrate
this in all areas of practice.
4.9 Ability to deploy and oversee the distribution of staff,
including deputising in the absence of the daycare manager.
