Cầu Cổng Vàng được coi là cánh cổng chặn trên con đường từ Thái
Bình Dương vào Vịnh San Francisco, nối liền thành phố San Francisco
ở mũi phía Bắc bán đảo San Francisco với hạt Marin gần thị trấn
Sausalito ở phía Nam. Cây cầu dài 2,7 km, khoảng cách giữa các nhịp
cầu là 1.280 mét, cách mặt nước 67 mét, còn hai tháp cầu có độ cao
230m tính từ mặt nước. Đường kính của các sợi cáp treo chính là 0,91
