Tianna Paschel, PhD in Sociology is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago, in the
department of Political Science. As of July this year, she will be an assistant professor. Her research
interests include Pan-Afro-Latin Americanism, Black social movements and race policy in Latin
America, and racial identity in Latin America. Among her works-in-progress are the following:
“Witches, Wives, Secretaries and Black Feminists: An Analysis of Masculinity and Women’s Leadership in Black Movements in Columbia,” and another piece, focusing on Afro-Columbian Movements and the Politics of Transnational Advocacy networks.
