world: Culture week
Autumn
We will be exploring individual cultural
backgrounds of traditional dress
alongside building confidence within
different environments of the school
Turn taking and sharing with new fabrics
and using symbols and Makaton to
request items.
Flag symbols and cultural fabrics will be
introduced to the children to help
demonstrate links between different
patterns/ colours in different cultures.
The children will additionally focus on
turn taking and sharing different games
and fabrics.
In Rainbow we will be counting with
number songs and using technology
programs to help recognise alphabet,
phonics and numbers.
Additionally we will use foam letters,
sensory/ messy play to create letters and
numbers. Chalk boards will help to
demonstrate number/ letter sequences.
In Literacy we will be using books, messy
play and whiteboards to encourage mark
making and increase familiarity with
letters. Circle time will also be used for
stories, hellos, and goodbye.
TEACCH will be introduced to support
students working independently to
match colours and clothing.
The children will choose different types
of traditional dress and will dress up by
putting on jackets, boots, hats to cultural
music.
Building independence and confidence to
request different tools/ toys individually
TEACCH will be used individually to
support the completion of an activity.
In Rainbow we will be introducing
clothing varieties via symbols and
providing the children with opportunities
to request specific items using
communication systems. Door requests:
with a range of choices, (two to six) to
consider the differentiation of the
children.
Colours will be used based on different
clothing patterns and cultures.
We will paint onto traditional patterns
and adding suitable textures to paint to
illustrate a culture. We will be drawing
hat style varieties on to paper heads and
dressing paper figures in different
cultural clothing.
We will be using ribbons/ coloured
fabrics and patterned textures for
dancing and singing. Dressing up, using
zips and making clothing choices, dancing
to cultural music.
We will access Soft Play, Circus Skills etc
to build individual strength, balance and
coordination.
