# Of students: 28
Topic:

- 30 coloured spots
- 60 spots
Space: ½ Gordon Head Gym
Time: 50 minutes (5 minutes before and

Objectives:
Cognitive: TSWBAT anticipate where the
ball will go in relation to where their
opponent contacted it and where they should

describe the cues of the roll shot
Affective: TSWBAT work cooperatively
with partner(s) to make changes to court and
line sizes in relation to their level of ability.
Psychomotor: TSWBAT demonstrate a roll
shot to score a point. They will also be able
to move around the court effectively.
Social: TSWBAT interact in small groups of
their peers.
Castle Game
- Review the forearm and overhead passes, get
students moving and warm
Aim: Score by having the ball you send land on
the target spot
Organization
See diagrams
below.
Teaching points

1. To score the ball must land on the spot
2. To restart - non scoring player gets to hit
the ball first
3. Area is anywhere near the goal spot
-
Get low, under
the ball
Move in
relation to
partner
-
Anticipate
where the ball
and teammate
will be

(Highlight pairs that are working
effectively and use for demo)
2 vs. 2 Bounce Game

the court, no need to bring them in.
See diagrams

on your opponents side
3. When you are scored on you serve the
ball
4. Ball must be released from shoulder
height
-
“1,2, over”
-
Get low
-
Anticipate
where the ball
and teammate
will be
-
Plant feet
firmly on floor
Arms overhead
Contact with
heel of hand
on lower side
of ball
Keep
shoulders
square to
target
Snap wrist
Follow

Roll Shot Progression
Transition – balls away, bring back in, explain
and demo roll shot
See diagram
below
Singular and partner roll shots
1. Toss ball up in the air and hit a roll shot
against the wall, repeat (ball should contact
on bottom half of palm, arm should be
extended overhead, wrist should snap in
follow through, ball should have forward
spin).
-
-
2. Partner tosses and catches ball while the
other returns the ball with a roll shot.
-
3. Rather than toss the ball from in front of
partner the tosser stands to the side of their
partner simulating where an overhead pass
would come from in a game situation. Roll
shot is sent to the wall.
4. If feeling confident then #3 can be recreated
while a jump and/or run-up can be added.
2 v. 2 Bounce Game
Transition – bring in – use group who did
previous set well and have class watch them,
highlight what they are doing well
Try this game using all components learned thus
far – forearm pass, overhead pass, roll shot
Aim: to have the ball bounce on your opponent’s
side before they can return it
