AND Probability
Directions: Use the multiplication formula below to do these problems. Show the 2 fractions you are
multiplying and then multiply them. Reduce the fraction answers for the last 9 problems only.
If A and B are independent events,
then P(A AND B) = P(A) ∙ P(B)
If A and B are dependent (or in ANY CASE),
then P(A AND B) = P(A) ∙ P(B) where you assume that A has already occurred while computing P(B).
EXPERIMENT: From a regular 52-card deck, select 1 card and then another card,
A. WITH REPLACEMENT (select first card, put it back and then select the second card):
1. Find the probability of selecting a K and then a 4. P(K and 4)
2. Find the probability of selecting a 10 and then a Hearts.
3. Find the probability of selecting a 10 and then a J.
4. Find the probability of selecting a two K.
5. Find the probability of that both cards are Hearts.
B. WITHOUT REPLACEMENT (select first card, keep it and then select the second card):
1. Find the probability of selecting a K and then a 4.
2. Find the probability of selecting a Q and then a J.
3. Find the probability of selecting a 10 and then a J.
4. Find the probability of selecting a two K.
5. Find the probability of that both cards are Hearts.
EXPERIMENT: Spin spinner1 twice (see picture left):
1. Find probability of spinning on black twice.
2. Find probability of spinning on gray twice.

If you have a color copy of this handout then in the spinner questions replace black with purple, gray with blue, when
answering these questions
AND Probability MT112 notatn.doc 2
3. Find probability of spinning on black and the gray.
4. Find probability of spinning on white and the gray. (See spinner on first page)
EXPERIMENT: Rolling 2 dice:
1. Find probability of rolling a “2” and then a “3”
2. Find probability of rolling a “5” and then a “1”
3. Find probability of rolling both “6”
4. Find probability of rolling both “1”
EXPERIMENT: Roll 1 die and then spin the spinner (on page 1):
1. Find probability of rolling “6” followed by spinning a gray.
2. Find probability of rolling “2” followed by spinning a white.
