How to troubleshoot Spotfire iPad application issues?
1. Symptoms
Some of the symptoms that you may experience while using Spotfire iPad app to access the
Web Player:
o Unable to access Web Player
o Unable to authenticate
o Unable to display analysis files
o Accessing analysis files will result in errors
Troubleshooting steps
1. System Requirements
Make sure your Spotfire environment meets all of the System Requirements need to run the
iPad app. Full details on System Requirements can be found here:
http://support.spotfire.com/sr_spotfireapp.asp
Note: The iPad app does not support Kerberos or any authentication method that uses
certificates.
2. Test using Safari
Check if you can access the WebPlayer through the Safari browser on iPAD.
If you cannot reach your WebPlayer through the Safari browser then most likely you will not
be able to reach your data through the iPad app. Make sure the iPad has access to the
internal network and be able to access any internal resources.
3. Verify Web Player URL
Make sure you have entered your WebPlayer URL correctly
You must add the virtual directory you used during installation. The default is “SpotfireWeb”,
and is case-sensitive.
4. Test accessing the Demo Gallery
Can you access the Spotfire Demo Gallery?
Click on the spotlight icon in the upper right hand corner of the app to reach this public demo
library. If you cannot reach this page then there is a connection issue.
5. Running iOS 6 or higher and Spotfire 4.5 or lower?
If you get an “Interpretation error during update” error message in both the app and Safari
browser and have recently upgraded to iOS 6.x then see the article Apple iOS6 causes
Spotfire Web Player 4.X and earlier to stop working.
6. Enable Logging
If the problem exists only in the app and not in Safari and these troubleshooting suggestions
haven’t helped, then capture a debug log event and log a support request with TIBCO
support. Enable logging by tapping on the Settings app and selecting Spotfire on the left side
of the screen. Near the bottom on the right is an option to “Log Application Activity”. Slide that
to “On” and exit Settings. Open the Spotfire iPad app and you will see an email icon in the
lower left hand corner. Reproduce the error, and then tap this icon to mail the log file.
